A Sherman Firefly, even in a full uptier, is perfectly capable of 1-shotting most vehicles it comes across. All you have to do is know where to shoot those vehicles. (something you're apparently not learning)
It's not about "shooting point blank range." You can do that 100/100 times and you still won't penetrate if you're shooting in the wrong spot. Or you will penetrate but not do anything, as the crew is still alive.
It's very simple, you're dying to experienced players who know where to shoot a Sherman, one of the most common low to mid vehicles in this game, you need to learn the weak-spots of what you're going up against.
I've seen a single tank rush a spawn point, have 3 tanks in my team shooting at him and he did not die. He ended up tanking every shot and turning the turret and killing them all.
There's like night and day difference between these "sus" players and real players. I just had a round and got 5 kills in 9 hits. I previous had a round with 21 hits and zero kills. A player tanked most of those 21 shots after I surprised him, somehow, and managed to last long enough to kill me.
Night and day.
Sometimes it's not how many shots... but where you're shooting that matters...

Sounds like you were plinking at a heavy tank, and not that there were any cheats present. Learn the weakpoints, they're very critical to actually killing things that aren't light tanks or trucks.
If you shoot in the same area over and over again when your first round or two didn't knock out a tank, you will continue to not kill it. Know where the crew sits in a given vehicle and pick them off one by one if you must. Use HE shells to knock out open top vehicles. Know where the ready rack and ammo storage sits on a given vehicle, it'll all but guarantee you a kill if you hit the ammo on most vehicles in the Sherman Fireflies's BR range.
Some vehicles are more survivable to penetrations than others due to the size of the crew compartment and what kind of shell penetrates their armor. British tanks "suck" in the eyes of many due to not having APHE based shells and rely on spalling effects to do damage, which can be a random damage value if you don't know where to send your round against a given target vs. APHE based rounds crutch on exploding inside the crew compartment and are more likely to knock out a crew in comparison.
To play Brit vehicles successfully, you need to be knowledgeable about all of the above. If you're not, well, you get posts like you've posted here.
This is also not a game that someone with "hacks" can casually modify damage models or damage of your rounds or whatever hackusation that's being proposed. That data is determined by Gaijin's servers, not information sent from someone's game client as would happen in something like Call of Duty or Planetside 2.
At best, someone is going to have an Aimbot/ESP cheat. You won't be able to modify damage values of a vehicle because there's nothing from your game client that actually calculates that damage, it's all Server-side.
This game makes people feel like an idiot sometime .
If you really want to see just how much the angle of the armor matters look at the Swedish Strv 103 in the projection analysis. Depending on the angle that tank can turn its measly 40mm armor into an effective 1100m at some of its strongest point.
Angle, distance, type of round, thickness of armor and the type of armor all matter. This game looks more simple that what it is but doesn't take too long to learn enough to be efficient. If you ever feel overwhelmed just message me and we can hop into a custom match and chat on discord and I will help you make sense of things.
typical for no skill Bots who are not willing to LEARN a game or are unable to understand mechanics but are the first ones to call everyone a cheater who is better than they.
there are two options:
1. LEARN the game, there are many tutorials on Youtube with many information and tips
2. Leave and look for a game that suits u better
Simple.
