Take a deep breath... and repeat to yourself... "It's only a game, it's only a game"
When you die, don't get mad, just ask yourself what you might have done better as you watch the kill cam. Could you have angled better? Pushed differently? Shot elsewhere first? There's always something, even for veterans of the game who get 10+ kills every match. If you don't try to learn, you never will and getting better will escape you always.
I also find that going in with the mindset of laughing maniacally when I get blown up because funny explosion helps me to stay happy.
If I'm having a night where I just can't chill while I'm playing, I try to play a different mode or nation.
If that doesn't work for me I just have to play something else for a while. Today was one of those. I was in the number one slot of my team most of the night, I was winning and kicking ass, but I couldn't chill so I determined "whelp, time for some total war"
Learn weak spots for tanks in the BR you play. If you cant remember shoot the sides of tanks. If you are thinking but we both drive forward and I only see the front of tanks...stop. go along the side of the map and try to flank (this is a fancy word for going around to where they do not expect you).
Do not bring all the ammo you can carry unless your tank is so weak and has no armor or angles it is going to die in a single hit anyway. If you want to know how much ammo put in about 25 or so then test drive and press your button to see the xray view. You may have to bind it but mine is bound to "o". While in xray mode check to see if ammo is not in areas you do not want it (mostly your turret if you can avoid it, or other weak spots on some tanks).
Use the ammo for the effect that makes you happy. Many youtubers tell you to pick a specific ammo. It is usually something with post pen damage. This is great advice but for me I go for penetration and penetration alone. Why if post pen damage is such good advice? I have no problem making follow up shots and like having more chance to pen. It means more to me and makes me happy. Always play how it makes you happy not what people say is best.
Spaded every land/air vehicle all nations from ranks I to III now and half way through rank IV. I've got rank VI and VII vehicles I haven't even played yet, and they can wait.
There's a lot of fun stuff to be found in this game, if you take your time
best way iv found is to just get good. I know that sounds harsh but thats really it. Just stick to one BR with a good lineup and really learn it. Try not to worry about money
My main three lineups right now are Japan 3.7 with a fighter focused lineup, the M24 is my only tank. Germany 3.7 with an SPAA focus and cannon aircraft because they’re fun. Then USA 4.0 with a tank focused lineup with CAS loaded with bombs. Each one has a very different overall focus and playstyle for different moods or goals. There’s a few other lineups I occasionally use like 4.3 Germany with all case mates and stuff like that. I don’t play above 5.7 ever. I pretty much only have fun when I play. No need to think about SL, I’m at 43 million right now and it just steadily climbs.
Otherwise, try to relax and don’t think about the grind much. You usually play better while relaxed and if you get frustrated, try to calm down or shut off the game. Playing while frustrated usually lead to bad games and bad decisions.
And usually it’s better to play more carefully and thoughtfully, but no need to play like a wimp 100 % of the time. For example, yesterday there were 2 tanks in Rhein watching a chokepoint with my teammates watching as well, I just said No balls to myself and formula 1:ed there and somehow killed both. Don’t expect to survive these types of moves very often tho lol.
EDIT: And to point out, don’t rush to get into top tier, and take your time. Checking the tech tree after every match can lead you to burn out. Just play the game normally and before you notice, you just unlocked a new vehicle.
Additionally, Low to mid and top tier are very diffirent games with diffirent metas, and I find low-mid tier to be very relaxing.
I'm not too familiar with tanks, but most aircraft are usually designed to fight a certain way. Example: Japanese Zeros (and most of their early line up) are good for turn fighting. This means getting on, and sticking to the tail of the enemy. Japanese planes, for the most part, weren't built for speed. Most early American planes were built for speed and NOT turn fighting. That means more of a hit-and-run or what we call "boom and zoom" type of way of fighting. Try to fight with those planes in ways they weren't designed will most likely end in you literally crashing and burning. I would imagine that can somewhat apply to tanks as well.
Finally there are some pretty good youtubers out there can can go in depth in the strength and weaknesses for a lot of the warthunder vehicles. For air arcade I recommend Long5hot (his videos are old but still mostly apply) and for air realistic I would recommend Jengar who I believe still puts out videos.
