Why I can't lock mi strella-10M2 passive IR missile on an Apache using IRCM?
It's supposed that the DIRCM and CIRCM works after the missile lanch is detected, if I use a manpad or any IR missile and I haven't launch it, the missile is in passive IR search and the IRCM can't know anything about it. So, why can't I lock in the apache to launch? the IRCM is not a radar ECM system to produce jamming all the time in different EM spectrum frequencies. Even the SU-25T IRCM systems have a limited time of life, can't be used all the time.

As far I know, both systems (DIRCM and CIRCM) begin working AFTER the missile is launched againts the helo

u need to be somewhat close to be able to get a lock on heli, most of the time around 3km, my Ozelot can't really lock any further either.

But this is wrong, that equipment does not exist IRL, that can be done with electromagnetic waves emitted by radars and the ECM pods reflects the same wavelength with different time intervals, jamming the emiiter radar.

It can be done when you aim a laser ranger in a helicopter and it has a directional laser to illuminate the emitting laser, most of them are mainly used as a detector to lock on laser ranger equipment. But when you have a passive IR missile, the target plane/helo doesn't know that you're there until you launch the missile.

In this case, you are unable to lock on the apache at any distance.

You can't lock on because the IR signature present to you is too small/and or not hot enough.

Tha's not the problem, a message in screen says that the apache is using a IRCM system, that's completely false and do not exists right now against passive methods (unless you point a laser to the object), or you have the sun behind the target. And by the way, the apache was less that 3km from me, I will try to record a video today.
