This was my thought as well, but I felt like it was too good to be true. As AdiVitto2k3 said, I wondered if perhaps it somehow affected my repair costs.
But I have never checked this, nor have I stopped earning SL's, so it must not be significant.
Works fine and it was damaged anyway ;)
If the plane is fine, I just land normally and try the perfect, smooth landing.
But thats in Sim & VR.
In AB/RB I wouldn´t give a f*ck and land on the canopy if necessary...
I also recently learned that you can even use the Drag Chute when belly landing with no gear, at least on the F100D Super Sabre you can, which makes landing even quicker. I can go from touchdown to repairing in nearly 5 seconds combining chute and fuselage belly landing.
I can't say I've ever seen that happen - clipping a tree without damage or issue.
But I agree, better damage models would be cool. I find the belly landing exploit lame, but don't expect other Players to stop doing it. Most seem to only play for the grind (and then complain about the grind), so it makes sense that way.
I might be mistaken as I don't have that much experience in ARB, but it feels like landing on fuselage is a lot faster to get back into the fight when you have substantial damage anyway.
It also seems to be less risky compared to landing a badly damaged plane properly, e.g. when you missed damage to your flaps or don't have full engine power and don't want to give up your remaining energy too early.
Again, might just be me being rather inexperienced though.
If its a prop and I'm coming in slow I'll probably use gear just for the hell of it, but some vehicles punish you for it. I cannot describe how many times I had to force the brake and flipped because the vehicle was front heavy or some crap like that.
I'll continue with shoving my plane into the runway as usual! :)
