Game is not beginner friendly.
Game is not beginner friendly.

If you are starting to play now or log in after having a long break, you are never going to unlock top tier fighter jets.

Eventually they can release as much nice and cool content as they want, if you have to grind to top tier to get it, the majority of the playerbase won't play the new content anyway.

Gaijin is way too desperate for people putting gold into the game. I get they want to make money, but this is next level coercion.

i agree. even when if u do reach top tier losing sl is all there is to it

top tier seems very unfun, the real game enjoyment comes from the ww2 and early cold war stuff

i'm not defending the grind. i'm just saying that if anything, it's the in game economy thats the real gatekeeper of the top tier vehicles.

i agree the grind is rough, especially if youre not making the absolute most out of research and SL bonuses.

But imo, going into any game with the objective of wanting to grind through to the endgame right away will tend to leave players frustrated or cause them to burn out early. Much better to just play and find a way to enjoy the content you have access to and eventually you will get to the end game content.

I don't want to grind through with ease, but I also don't want to grind till top tier for 8-10 years.

Which is what it takes.

The grind is too much and the fact that one is forced to play WW2 vehicles for 90% of the grind just to eventually get to a solid fighter jet, is just not a smart business idea.

People have different interests. Not everyone enjoys the WW2 era.

Now if a noob then buys a modern vehicle for 60 bucks, everyone complains he sucks at the game and quits the match after his one vehicle is gone. And you think this isn't a bad game model ?

Also, I am playing the game since release and have not one " unlocked " top tier vehicle, the ones I have, are premium.
Yes, I had a few breaks and did not spend money on premium accounts a lot, but hello... I am playing the game casually since 11 bloody years. Even the worst player should get a top tier after this time. But even 11 years wasn't enough time to try playing different trees and getting a top tier at the same time.

Game sucks. Game is a massive grind and game is a rip off.

Anyone who claims this is well made or fair, regarding the grind and economy, lost touch with reality.

The only reason this game has such a big playerbase is because there is no other game like this. Once there is a solid competitor, who does not have such an insane grind and ideally no repair economy at all, players will literally leave the game and never look back.

if I had the team and time, I would develop an alternative to WT, but I am currently simply not in the position to do so.

idk.... like i said, i'm not defending the grind. In fact, one thing i hate about most free to play games is the grind they force on you. I'm just saying this is one of those few games that tries to bite you in the ass for even trying to skip the grind. I got love for war thunder, but it's definitely an abusive relationship.

On one hand, i kinda feel like it's the player's fault if you've been playing for the better part of a decade, and still dont have modern vehicles. but, I agree with you about the fact that war thunder just has no real competition.( i dont even think world of tanks really compares)

a few times a year a scour the internet hoping somebody will come in and start working on a true rival game for them. And i always end up back on war thunder. though i have been tracking a game called Gunner, Heat, PC for a while now. hoping and praying for the best but i still dont think it's a war thunder killer.

all in all, war thunder is not a terrible game, but it aint really all that good either. Feels like the only game mode i've been playing for years is, 'go drive to that circle over there and hope you dont get one-shotted from across the map.'

I really wish somebody would just go ahead and design a AA or AAA vehicular warfare game with realistic modules and damage models. The day it comes out will be the day i uninstall war thunder.

It's pretty easy, either you accept that there is a hell of a grind to do in order to unlock the top tiers, or you don't.

If you don't accept it, look for other games to play modern day vehicles, there are some out there and everyone knows them - but they as well cost money.

No company will drop their business model - which works for them, otherwise this game would be long shut down - just because of people complaining about it in one obscure forum made by one retailer.

Your own decision.

add.. OP pretty much keeps repeating his own arguments and also doesn't forget to throw in some childlike logic - i.e. everyone who disagrees with him is out of touch of reality and other such nonsense. Grow up.

If gaijin just fix the grind so people can play what they like not have to grind 10 years of game to get where they want to get to.

Not asking to the grind to go down to that level of can unlock every think in one night just that if i sit down for 4 hours one night i can make some head way in to a tech tree.

But gaijin think people like the game more when it take them 10 years to unlock every think even if you do 14 hours a day 7 days a week it still take years to unlock every think.

But they never going to do any think about it there no to many people say the grind is to long and the economy of the game is bad with the way the game is now it make them lot of money lot of money and people are happy to be milk.

Can you at less make premium account be worth the cost of having it so i go from a 20 years grind down to 10 years i can't want for a new game that better then this to come out the grind is killing me and i bet i have 2 country full tech tree by then only 4 more years to go

My biggest issue with the grind is having to buy tanks after finishing researching it, just to move on to the next tank. There are vehicles that I have no desire to play. Once I research a tank or aircraft I should be able to move on to the next one.

Yeah. If they would remove this, the grind would only be half as bad. I agree.

honestly, with the way the ingame economy works. jumping to modern right away would be hard to maintain. you pretty much need a foundation of SL to cover repair costs.

and the higher tiers definitely get a bit more competitive so newer and rusty players will be getting sent back to the hanger more often.

i get the desire of operating the newest vehicles, but rushing into them will do more harm than good in many cases.

even throwing your wallet at the screen and purchasing top tier premiums isnt really advisable until you get some other vehicles to help fill in the lineup

How can people defend this grind ?

If someone creates an account and starts at zero, he will spent around 8 years to reach max. tier with a normal casual amount of playtime per day or week and without money.

And I agree, premiums wont cover anything, it will just make people quit and lack experience.

The entire game is just broken and a massive rip off. No matter how I twist it, I always come to the same conclusion.
Its real simple, you wanna play top tier? buy a top tier vehicle then, oh you got no money? Thats your problem.

1. Grind through the tech trees (most time consumin when f2p)
2. Pay 60 or 70 bucks (50% discount during certain sales) for a premium jet
3. Unlock rank 3, participate in one of 4 annual events, get event top tier vehicle
4. Join a squadron, get squadron vehicles

Also you know what wouldn't be beginner friendly?
Jumping from 1.0 pre and early war vehicles where you play against mostly bots and get used to the mechanics maps and playstyle straight into modern jets and tanks where people club you as soon as you make the slightest mistake.

I get that the progression in this game game is absurd but one shouldn't be supposed to reach the F-16s or Mig-29 after only playing a week

squadron vehicles offer little to no benefit over tech tree with the exception of a few (M-901 and BMP-2M) the rest of them have nothing special.

Fun fact, this is why most D&D groups with semi-experienced players actually start at levels 5 or 10 so you actually have some nice abilities to start off with. The lower level stuff actually is boring and that's the case for most games. Ironically War Thunder is one of the few games where lower tier things can be more fun.

Good point. I actually enjoy low BR ground battles. I am not good at ground but I really enjoy it

Unlocking top tier anything is not the reason to play War Thunder. look at what the game presents as the challenges Grinding is not one of them. Do the challenges and you will do the grinding without trying

Stop telling others what reason they are supposed to play for.

The game lacks game modes and becomes super repetitive. Challenges do not interest everyone, some people want to just enjoy the vehicles they are interested in.

I am interested in modern vehicles, which make this game rather boring to me as I won't grind for 10 years to reach some top tier jets.

They could also just split the tree and let people play what they enjoy. If you are in for the challenges and don't care about the grind, thats cool for you.

get the squadron vehicles you can get top tier ez pz just join a squadron and pick one you want just takes a lil time
SlyFX Feb 5, 2023 @ 4:54pm
I Recommend the sea harrier frs.1 its my favorite squadron top tier jet. you can get it without paying money ot having previously grinded the planes before it
