How do you notch?
Im doing everything videos say to do but missiles still track, even with flaring and what not... Im getting screwed over by F14 Sparrows yet they never work the way they do for other players when I use them in the exact situations, this game is SO infuriating right now.

flares and chaff only work for IR/HEAT seaking missles
not radar guided

90 degrees flightpath to enemy and his radar and you have to get below him into ground clutter or at least his radar has to angle downward to you otherwise the doppler notch filter on his radar is not relevant. Also it's chaff, you have to be chaffing for crying out loud!

Flares are for IR missiles, chaff is for radar, jesus friggin christ.

And you do both because radar is used to slew IR missiles seeker head faster than by pointing the nose of the aircraft. AND you have no choice because Gaijin did provide only one key/command for countermeasures. So always use chaff and Flares.

I do exactly this, doesnt work game is broken as all hell, its getting to the point its unplayable already has been past year.

you're probably just not notching correctly so the missile is just picking you up, clip would help people diagnose your issue.

A good way to notch is to watch your rwr and go into the right angle. If it's still beeping then you'll have to turn more than 90 degrees (which works for some reason).

Notching does work.

It doesn't work if the F-14 Tomcat pilot switches from PD to CW radar mode. A competent Tomcat pilot will wait until you start going into a Notch then will switch their radar mode.

This is when you need to deploy Countermeasures once you enter the Notch in order to also defeat the CW radar mode.

Chaff is literally meant to distract radar missiles.

Old thread but here goes, Chaff does absolutely nothing. You defeat radar missiles kinematically, not with countermeasures. You need to learn to respect the MAR (minimum abort range) against each aircraft. Most importantly, you need a squad mate. You are not supposed to run solo in these aircrafts, you need to support each other and communicate to attack specific targets first. YOU DO NOT MERGE, unless you absolutely have to. You keep your range, you support your aim-54's until they go active. You abort then you recommit only when the enemy is at least 20nm from you. There is a lot to learn if you want to play the tomcat. If you dont want to learn these things, expect to suffer and die on every single match. You would be better off flying an early jet instead
