Discussion: The Golden Hind & Naval Battles!
Hey guys!

Introduction
In this topic I want to talk about the new War Thunder april fools event: Sailing Fleet! Yes, that is right, we get to play golden age sailing ships in a grand naval battle. So far I have only played the Golden Hind, which is the default ship you get, and I am enjoying it very much. The objective is to capture objective A, and to hold it while also trying to fight off enemy vessels. It is a rather hilarious and tough new gamemode, but it surely is fun playing!

This is not a guide. Please do not post comments stating that this thread is in the wrong place.

Reference Video
Here is a reference video to which I'll be referring several times throughout this post (Should be available in 1080p and 1440p soon). That way it is easier for me to describe what I mean with certain situations. Support at my channel is always appreciated!: http://www.youtube.com/user/imjustacowlol

Pros and Cons
I will try to go trough the pros and cons of the gamemode and the Golden Hind as far as I know them. Now we don't have any other boats for reference material, so the pros will be the good things about the event, and the cons will be the bad/tough things of the event.
Pros:
-Insanely fun gamemode, especially in a squad
-Amazing physics and graphics, I'm especially stunned by the water (see video at 00:40)
*Look at the wind for example: there actually is a wind direction and if you follow that direction you'll float faster (see video at 09:40)
-Good damage models
-I've always wanted to be a pirate
-You can't kamikaze into other ships (which is also a con)

Cons:
-It can be hard to aim the cannons, especially at long range (see video at 01:40)
-You can't kamikaze into other ships (which is also a pro)
-The battles are rather short
-There are supposed to be more ships, but so far I've only seen the Golden Hind
-Where is Jack Sparrow?

Strategy
Oh boy... Strategy... Now I am (as everyone is) new to the gamemode. Currently I did immediatly notice a few things that should all of you help getting started. First of all it is important to aim quite a bit above your enemies. At a range of 500m I try to aim for the middle of their sails, and at 700m and beyond I try to aim above their sails. Now it is important to 'right-click' so that you zoom onto your ship. For me this makes it a lot easier to aim for the enemy, and it also makes me feel more like a pirate.
Aside from that, you can also rotate your ship 180 degrees if you have shot a salvo on one of your ship's sides. Rotating the entire ship will be faster than reloading, so you can actually shoot 2 salvos in a relatively short period of time (see video at 03:20).

I'm definitely excited to see what you guys think about this vehicle! Please don't hestitate to join the conversation!

Why do I make such topics, with a video in it?
People have recently been accusing me of trying to advertise my channel on the WT forums & Steam forums. I want to go ahead and say that this is not true. I have been doing YouTube for nearly 2 years now, and I have only got 500 subscribers. If I would have done it for the fame, or for the views, I would've made sure that I had gotten more subscribers.

The reason that I make such topics, is because I enjoy talking with you guys. I like to learn more about the vehicles I play, I like to see what strategies you guys have, I like to hear about your opinions. It's just something that appeals to me: discussing with you guys.

Hopefully this clears some things up. Cheers!
