Cheats do exist, but the belief that "everything is server side, so no hacks are possible" is still presented by Gaijin staff in general. Which is usually accurate, except in certian cases.
It's not an aimbot. It's either A) People really familiar with their tank, B) Some combination of the above, and a really high velocity gun, or C) Both A, B, and use of a rangefinder.
With everything calculated serverside, there is no way to cheat without actively hacking the server at the same time, something that is extremely improbable, and has never happened before.
aim bots are probably one of the major examples of things you can do- where you point your gun is on you entirely
kinda awkward to deny its possible to hack, when a clan recently got banned for hacking...
The developers mostly deny that cheating is an issue, and it likely isn't.
Adding anti cheat would also open a whole new can of worms, most likely with false positives, as well as breaking what little modding that is currently allowed.
do War Thunder cheats exist ? most likely they do because in the end War Thunder is a software installed locally on the users PC thus 3rd party software can be used to either alter things in the client or take over controls etc (though some cheats may only work locally due to server sided checks - e.g. Golden Eagles cheat tools that lead players to believe they got more golden eagles than they actually do (on the server))
do War Thunder hacks exist ? highly unlikely since this would involve hacking of the servers as well. while this may not be impossible (still it's only a software ^^) it's way more difficult and the chance it of being detected is definitely higher.
there already is an anti cheat software in place.
though i guess there are different ways about how anti cheat systems work. some of them (like punkbuster for instance) kick, block and/or flag players right away when they detect a (possible) cheater while others gather informations of unusual behaviours / situations / data flows and forward those data to the game developers for further investigation.
i guess both methods got very specific advantages as well as disadvantages... and just as it is with viruses and anti virus softwares it's a cat-and-mouse game ^^
