How do you counter the M3 Lee
Im low level german, teir 2, and come across these incarnations of satan commonly, being one shot or crippled to the point of just going afk, cos i know what happens next. Even when their aim is ♥♥♥♥, it takes a very large chunk of my ammo to take them down., very littel weak spots on the front armour, hard to get behind as it travels in packs. Wondering if someone could give me some insight

What tanks exactly are you using? If it is a Panzer IV with a short barreled 75mm, Hl.Gr.38C anywhere. Panzer IV F2 with stock rounds anywhere. Same for the Marders and early Stugs. The only ones that may struggle a bit are the Panzer III's, but even then, it's not that bad.

The upper front plate is thicker at 50mm, but only angled at 29 degrees (best spot for the 50mm guns to hit) while the lower portion is only 38mm thick, but angled at a steaper 54 degrees (A common angle for later German tanks) and it is best to hit that area with a short 75mm HEAT or longer 75mm stock Pz.Gr.39.

What also makes it tough is the 6 man crew. You have the driver, 2 men (gunner and loader) for the 75mm just to the drivers left (when facing it), and 3 men in the upper turret. Avoid shooting at the 75mm gun as all the angled bits will make it very bouncy. I would sugest you send the first shot beside, or into the drivers hatch which will kill either the driver and 37mm gun loader, or the 37mm gunner and commander.

Regardless though, it will usually take a couple of hits to take out simply because of its size and 6 man crew. Best thing you can do is keep your distance (where the 75mm is hard to aim and the 37mm is not effective), dissable the guns or his movement, and just keep putting rounds into the crew. If you have a long 75mm gun, a shot to the commanders copula will probably fragment and kill the 37mm gun crew with a decent shot if you have a few seconds to spare.
You shoot it in the front.

PzIII J1 is my best tank, well more of my highest tier one. All my other ones are 30-37mm cannons. Am i doomed?

Just do some lower BRs untill you get the first PzIV and optionally the Stug.

Short barrel Pz IV with heat shells. StuG III A with heat shells, Pz IV F2 and StuG III F from there with default PzGr ammo.

Remove the J1 from your line untill you get some better tanks (presumably a Panzer IV with a short 75mm, or better, the F2). If you insist on keeping the J1, aim for the front glacis (drivers hatch and beside) as it is only 50mm thick at just a 29 degree slope.

in general, when you dont know how to kill something, look at your tank and see how much it can pen, then in the garage open up the enemy under preview to see metal thickness
