Once you've learnt the maps and the basics a bit the other majors (USA and Germany) should be easy enough before moving to the harder / minor nations.
They are also rather versatile in terms of speed and armour. Jack of all trades master of none kind of thing.
Once you are past the starter tanks you can for example make a 2.0 BR Arcade lineup consisting of T-70, SU-76M and T-80 or some anti-air truck. Quite a versatile and enjoyable lineup that should be quickly unlocked.
NO french tank is beefy, including the Leclerc.
As someone who just started, go with RU faction to learn on, especially if youre not going to be running premium time.
DO NOT choose a subfaction like sweden, israel, italy or france. They have very high skill caps and are very expensive to repair compared to RU. They are fine to expand into, but not start in.
(I only wrote about ground RB here cuz in Arcade you will not become a better player.)
Realistic offers the best middle ground.)
Just don't buy urself into BR 8.0 & up cuz you will only die & leave the team after 1 death.
In general the most fun & "balanced" BR is from 3.3 - 7.3.
Me favorite in this BR are UK cuz the have a a lot of unique vehicles & have accurate fast firing guns with great PEN & early gun stabilizer BUT no explosive filler! Brrritisch are Perfect 4 countering heavy German & Ruzzian tanks.
EARLY French tonks are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ painful & the fun part starts quite late AT 6.7 with fast tonks with auto-loader.
The easiest start you will have with ruzzian bias tanks up to 6.3 they are easy as ♥♥♥♥ to play. Also the happiest tanks in the game cuz the have no gun depression. But the stalinium will bounce impossible ♥♥♥♥ quite often (especially their casted turrets/
BUT not British APDS ;) they have so much pen to ignore stalinium.
German tanks are all rounders with great guns & decent mobility BUT terrible teams.
What ever you do NEVER rush to a tank you want, always !!research the LOWER BR tank first!! cuz you need a proper line up.
The US of A tree has IMO to big gabs between BR's unless u like driving shermans & you will drive a lot of em. They have some fun tanks too, Like the M24 Chaffee, M18 Hellcat, the M41 Bulldog & 2 Jumbo Sherman's.
All in all i would suggest focus on Ruzzian & British,
Ruzzian to learn their BS & weaknesses, the UK to snipe their stupid tanks out of the match. APDS for the WIN!
As a beginner you will often miss other tanks or shoot the wrong spots, so you give them a chance to return fire. The armor of the russian tanks however will give you a good chance to survive the incoming shot. Also, you dont know the maps and their flanki spots. When you move, you will get shot from the side. Russian tanks have a good, often angled side armor, so you have a better chance to survive these shots as well.
I wouldnt recommend the german tanks, because the early to mid tier tanks rely on their guns. You can only take full advantage of their guns, when you know the maps and the capabilities of the enemy tanks. (in general you should check out all the available tanks in the tier your are in and look for week spots, but also turret rotation rates and reloading times)
US tanks are decent as well (armor, mobility, firepower all good) but armor isnt as good as of their russian conterparts.
I'd say:
1. USSR
2. USA or Germany
3. Everyone else
if this post was from a few years ago, id have said yes.
Russia.
Point and click/hold adventure. Not forgiving to poor positioning.
Germany.
Britain.
Recommend only if you are going to sink time into the game. their heavy reliance on AP rounds encourages the player to learn tank internals for ammunition racking.
America.
sides are flat as a German tank, with similar flanking speed to a Russian lineup, with the lot of depression to use all those nifty hills.
China, a mix of Russian, american and Chinese tanks.
France. variety of tanks that can perform different task in a battle. generalist? faction?
Sweden. love or hate it. edging closer to generalist with recent updates fleshing out the lineup with other nation tanks.
Israel, think you need to progress down another country up to a certain point to use them. not sure though.
Reasonable answer. play what is fun. Then play what agrees with your habits/mentality.
Playing the best tank is relative to you. or a pissing match between stats and opinions.
