Can someone explain the wager system to me?

I know you put in do the field and get out but i dont understand the different steps like it just says for E.g. be the best squad you put in for step ten cause you want a bigger return and you get the best squad and it doesnt give you anything it say like first step done they dont explain it that well.

Wager pays out once it's finished, either you used up all your fails or you arrived at the end.

yea i know but all it says is get best squad for example and i get it first game and the wager is still running. it doesnt tell you how many times you have to get it it only tells you what you have to get.

For each match you fullfilled the requirement, you advance one stage; for each match you didn't fullfil the requirement, it counts as a failure.
Once the maximum amount of failures (3?) or the highest stage is reached, whichever comes first, the wager ends and you will be paid the reward according to the stage you have achieved.

The amount of SL you put in at the beginning determines how much you can get given the stage you achieved. Unless it's a GE wager, then there is no stake.

Example:
The Best Squad Wager:
You can put in a stake of 0-10k SL.
If you put in 0, when you finish the wager you will get the reward according to the mininum stake column, so 5k at stage 1, 50k at stage 5 etc.
If you put in 10k, you will get the amount according to the max. stake column, 10k at stage 1, 100k at stage 5.

So as you can see, bascially it's a gamble (based on how confident you are of your ability to complete the wager requirement), which is exactly what a wager means anyway. The higher the stake you put in, the more you will get if you achieve a higher stage in the wager.
Vice versa, the less you put in as stake, the less you get for achieving the same stage.

The stake has nothing to do with the stages you can achieve. You can go all the way to stage 10 regardless of how much stake you put down.
The only thing that determines the stage you can achieve is the result of your battles.

if you hover over the wager in your items bar there is a check at what stage you are, it also tells you at the end of the game, if you stay to the end.

How hard can it be to actually look at the active wager? It tells you everything, how many tries you got left, and how much you will earn when it finishes.

Well that said, Gaijin's tranlation is often not the best and many wordings they use are not really straight-forward simple English. Considering how many young players there are in the game I am not surprised that some of them are confused.
