B-24D vs B-17G | Best US Bomber?

Hi, I use American planes and I wanna know which T5 bomber is the best. I use B24 alot lately but i hve a sence that there is a small debate between these 2 historical bombers. So since we have a nice WT audience here, which one do u think guys is better to use?

B17 is stronger all around with better payload options and an arguably better defensive gun arangment. Specifically it had powerfull forward fire with a dual 50 in the chin. Biggest weakness is wing cuts near the winr root or right outsite the outboard engines.

B24 is slightly less durable than the B17 but mucc faster when upgraded. Durrability differance is mainly due to it catching fire more often. B24 is also more sucesstable to Bomb Rack explosions, BUT it is less sucetable to wingroot breaks. More often than not you will have a tip break off or you will burn down. Dont let this understate the 24 though, its a stong plane. Defensiive it has better or equal rear defence with less offisiv forward capability. Less payload options but same max 8k lbs payload.

B24 is faster, 17 is more "fort"-ish much like real life lol

Hmmm I can relate to all these.So lets say i play a mission where you hafta bomb bases,and i wanna go high and fighters might wanna chase me up in the skies,which one is ideal for that?Also B24 is fast as you said,but i dont know what can i choose lol.

If you are goot at defending yourself at high altitude go for the 17g, If you preffer more speed to get to the bomb site to begin with, that way you at least get one pass, go for the 24.

They have slightly different playstyles, but for the most part are interchangable in roles.

If you like the first two 17's the G will be much the same, if ya want somehting a bit more snappy go for the 24 :)

If you fly low ground attack, especialy in RB the 24 might uit your needs, gets a 12x500lbs payload for hitting pillboxes and such.

If you preffer high altitude pillbox hits, go 17, the 500lb bombs arent any good for small targets past 15k feet, but the 1k lbs bombs still do good, and the 17g gets 6/8 per load :)



as to your specific issue (fighters up high and which is ideal), the ansewer is neither. Grab a wingman, that is ideal :)

Aside from that, if you are a bomber who wants to be left alone, go Japan line and grab the G8. My intercept rate in the G8 is non-existant compared to any other bomber. Ofcourse the three daul 20mm turrets on it have nothing to do with that im sure ;)

Hmmmmm for some reason B24 drags me since im not good at dodgin fighters. I know b24 gets destroyed easily and that annoys the hell outta me but as for speed i want b24 yes because first...my name :p.. and second i wanna go and bomb the enemy bases first even tho american planes dont have good bomb damage as the gDo 217 for example.But thanks for ur info anyways!u seem like an experienced player.

Well I don't know about them B24 and B17's but the G8N1 is the best at anything sir. My reason is that it has 20mm cannons and 800kg bombs plus i shot down a b24 and a b17 in it.
