I'd practice top-down shots, as well as shots on T-34s, as their armor is sloped perfectly for side shots from the air. Their ammo is stored on the bottom, so aim lower and hope their tracks don't absorb the shot, (they probably will).
If it makes you feel any better, irl Hurricane Vickers S 40mm attackers sucked. I think they only killed 1/3rd of the tanks they were even able to hit.
Definatly flys nicer than the german equivalent(ju87g1/2) since its built around a fighter design
But you are doing your team a contribution, i mean it's better you one hitting the bombers then having 2 team mates with pee shooters failing to bring one down.
It works as a fighter also, it's just much harder to land them hits.
It also isn't great at turning, small magazines and a very long reload time.
So i wouldn't blame people for focusing on bombers.
Practise generally helps. I improved greatly at predicting when to fire a shot to land a hit as time went on.
It works well on ai ground units from what i remeber. Again granted if you can land the hit of course.

I would suggest setting your plane to have 500mm convergence as it tends to be that range when you start engaging tanks.
As for destroying other planes im not really sure it takes a bit of practice with it to destroy planes with.
