just uninstall it manually, not that hard man
Its like saying what is this HiPatchService if playing a HiRez Game be it Smite or Paladin.
I unchecked it in MSconfig before i came to complain about it.
My point is it's not in the Windows install shield.
Which means if you uninstall War Thunder, it leaves its garbage in your windows registry.
And it's completely unnecessary if you already use Steam checking for updates.
Pile-O-garbage...
Edit: Found the peice of filth here, in case you need it:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Shared Tools/MSConfig/Startupreg/Gaijin.net Agent
It functions like malware, it's disgusting. Not to mention its features are practically pointless.
I seriously do not understand how people can defend this sort of thing.
If you like to have useless programs downloaded to your computer without your knowledge or consent, with no clear or easy method of removing said programs permanently, I hope you take a step back and think about why it's something you shouldn't sit down and accept. I also hope you have really good antivirus software, for your own sake.
To clarify, I was implying that if someone were to not care about files being downloaded to their computer without their knowledge or consent, they may be rather prone to getting viruses. I wasn't saying that the GJAgent is a virus, because it most certainly to my knowledge is not.
It is, however, bloatware trash that shouldn't function in the manner it does.
I don't remember ever seeing the Gaijin agent when I began playing the game several years ago. It is most certainly not "Just an outdated part of the client" that they've neglected to get rid of.
Regardless of when it was added, it's still a piece of useless bloatware that functions in a method eerily similar to malware or a virus, and it shouldn't exist.
And please stop trying to make excuses.
this is because it has not been installed via the Windows installer.
not if the game is getting uninstalled properly (the autostart reference will be removed by the launcher, however the agent files may remain on the disk but will be inactive unless there is some other gaijin game installed).
umm no... because the game is not getting updated via Steam but only via the launcher (at least it was like this before i removed WT from Steam about a month ago (and before ofc)... and i dont think this has changed... or maybe i just missed the announcement ^^ anyway, i've never seen WT getting updated through Steam)
ahh well... i hope you also did untick 'auto updates' in your launcher settings... otherwise the agent may just reappear on the next launcher update (launcher update ! not client update ^^)
it does not download itself (d'oh) it is the launcher that does (not that it really makes a big difference but still)
and it is getting installed in 2 locations only... the game folder (for backup reasons most likely) and into the ..\AppData\local\Gaijin\ folder - that's it.
well... i do because of all the crap that has been (or is getting) told about it.
do i like or use the agent ? no (because i dont need it)
do i unstand the reason why it has been implemented ?
yes... parts of the community have been asking for a tool to keep their WT install up to date so they do not have to wait (for ages) before they can run the game... this ofc especially applies to players that do not start the game on a daily basis or those with rather slow internet connections. however the way it has been implemented was just bad... like 'good intend but badly done'
still... when i see people telling rubbish like 'it's seeding updates to other players, it cannot be removed / disabled (at all), it contains a crypto currency miner, it does slow down my internet speed, it hides itself, it interferes with ither applications, it gathers personal data / information, yadda yadda yadda' i just cannot sit around and watch all this misinformation getting spread.
IT IS NOT PERFECT but there is so much sh!t being said about it that just IS NOT TRUE - it's unreal...
Thanks for your reply. You took some time typing that wall of text.
Well if there is so much negativity about this 'Agent' roaming your operating system. Maybe they should slap their programmer a few times and make him disable the memory camping (and polluting) agent for Steam users. That would avoid all those rumors.
I bought it on Steam, I got the update through steam, there is no reason this thing is installed for Steam users.
Just another lazy, cant be assed developer.
