This.
Spoiler: Aircraft don't like taking damage. You do not have armor nor should you really put yourself in a position to be hit.
I can get consistent hits on most other planes, like german planes and nothing happens.
Speaking of P-51 why do they catch fire so easily? Is this a common problem or just luck?
LOL that was probably me. I actually made that exact comment a couple of months back in another thread (if you don't believe me you can search for it) where we talked about which planes are most likely to survive a fire.
I literally said sth. along the lines of "I once flew a Yak-3 and survived being set on fire 3 or 4 times" xD
Edit:
Found it:

I said:
"flying a Yak once (I can't remember if it was a Yak-3 or Yak-9) where my plane caught fire 4 times in a row and each individual fire was extinguished after which I safely landed on the airfield"
Because it gets hit with 20mm Minengeschoß high explosive incendiary rounds.
"You have a hole in your left wing" my american plane, which is Gajin's way of saying your wing ejected itself because someone sneezed on it.
Because every country besides the US actually uses a caliber bigger than 12.7mm that also has explosive filler. This doesn't change my opinion on the fact that .50 cals are absolute monsters to deal with because of their magical fire starting/pilot sniping capabilities which almost always results in a kill.
