F-5's are primarily gunfighter duelists so you need to pick good engagements with that in mind. If you treat your missiles as tools that you use to get your target into gun positions (aka force them to bleed speed to evade), your performance with F-5s will go up.
- Stay below 3000m and pay attention to your RWR
- F-5s are good at snapping into a Notch position, watch for missile trails coming towards you and go defensive immediately if you see any missile trails following you
- Do not try to merge head on with other aircraft, they will outrange you with all aspect missiles, put yourself into a Notch and force them to close in with you, before turning to merge with them
- Wait until the main furball starts up before picking targets to engage. You are not a vanguard fighter, your job is to squeeze into someone else's turn and gun them down
