The servers weren't "duped".

People were running cheats on their clients.

Gaijin used to ban players even before EAC was added, each and every month.
And guess what, they still do.

Yep that's what happens when a game adds anti-cheat there's a ban wave the thing that sucks EAC isn't really a good anti-cheat it's one of the most cracked anti-cheats out there and sadly there is no such thing as a impenetrable anti-cheat but all of this is irrelevant this whole discussion start about cheat engine a piece of software that can do nothing to basically every single game that is server side which is 99% of all MMOs lol

O I know I play a lot of Eastern game's I love Eastern MMOs but hate there monetization it's crazy how many there are but hay it's encouraged in china don't believe me a lot of there big game streamers are cheating and brag about it I've been to a game caff in China about 3 or 4 years ago and I would say about 1/3 of the people there had blatant aim bot on screen to see

The EAC isn't a very good anti cheat system too often it creates false positives one way I have found that does this is simply to start the game and exit right after it goes to the hanger, going back in after that flips it out sometimes and it refuses to open the game while giving you an error that some have been banned for because to the developers it screams something SUS.
Developers use it because it's cheap software and due to this fact it is inefficient I have seen some calling the "Easy Anti Cheat" the "Easy Access Cheating", people have exposed cheat engine users before in War Thunder Gaijin is dead set in thinking they don't exist and that the game never has had a cheat engine In my time I'm sure i have ran across people using them but i probably don't even give it a second glance.

Probably because saying that, and publishing ban-lists at the same time, would not make any sense.

The thing is most things are server side, so there are very specific limits on what you can do, and can't do in WT.

Yep they exist every online game has them but WT I can only count the number of cheaters I know was cheating on both of my hand over the year and I've been playing the game when ground was added so it's by no means as bad as people are led to beleave if you see any strange thing in game 99% it's the server or gaijin broke something in there most resent patch remember when they broken almost all angled armor in game and straight up forgot to put back on the M4-76mm shermans turret mantlet yea most sketchy things you see are server delay but once in a blue moon you can find a wall hacker or aim bot

I would love to see someone pull that off, all you would need to do is dupe the entire server plus the cash of player data and then find a way to route traffic from the steam client to your server instead of gaijin's, the pay off would be minimal, the cheating would be more effort than it could ever be worth but it would still be one hell of an achievement
