Why do people say APCR ammo is bad vs slopes? The stats make it look good.
I'm mainly running a T29 (for grinding) and noticed that its APCR round looks like the right choice vs sloped armour, compared to its usual heavy APCBC round. The numbers suggest it only has high chances of ricochet at higher angles of attack.

Yet on the forums all I've seen is people saying "APCR ricochet so much".

Am I reading he statistics wrongly, is APCBC simply "even worse" than APCR"for ricocheting, or is there something hidden that makes APCR worse against slopes than they appear (to me) to be in the stats?

Basically I just want to know which of those two ammo types I should be choosing vs meaty slopes front plates etc.

Thanks.

APCBC FTW. APCR fking do nothing when it penetrates.

never user apcr over apcbc, apcr is god awful, it is only good against flat armour but still use apcbc.

If you wanna grind, I suggest you to use APCBC. People call it the « nuke round », just for it’s ability to kill in oneshot. At least for the after-pen damage, APCBC is better over APCR.

the only time i have ever found apcr useful is when im a T50 going against a 3-inch carrier, as it allows me to pen the 0' armour.

APCR is only practically useful against well-armoured opponents. For example Tiger 2H when using the 90mm M3

the tiger 2 has flat thick armour, which is great for APCR. most mid war tank design has moved to sloped armour, in-game the APCR behaves very weirdly against it.

Because the "stats" don't really tell of its negetive slope modifications and normalization values, meaning the 'angle' it actualy strikes is larger/sharper than what you actually shoot at. Meanwhile normal shells (especially capped ones) normalize somewhat when hitting an armor plate, which makes their angled 'stats' a bit misleading as it can pen a bit more at those angles that the raw numbers say.

Also, APCR post-pen damage is god awful.
