Amx-13 (Fl11) bulletdrop
So just a short question, why is the bullet drop of the Amx-13's rounds so high?

Maybe there is something that I'm missing but the APCRHE round is the same used in the m4a1 and the m4a1 has a shorter barrel. So they have the same muzzle velocity, the same weight, same shape and I wanna know why the round on the m4a1 has less bulletdrop than the amx 13.

With that, the range lines are spaced further and the drop seems worse then it really is. The same applies to the Jagdtiger if you compare it to the Maus or a Jagdpanther compared to a Tiger II as other examples of the same thing.

The fl11 turret originally belongs to an armored car (the ebr panhard), so it probably wasn't that big of a deal since it wasn't made to engage heavy targets at long range.

If I had to take a guess at the reason for that though, I'd say it could be because they couldn't put as much gunpowder to reduce the size of the whole shell. After all, the turret is quite small and it also comes with an autoloader.

According to the wiki numbers they do have the same muzzle velocity with the M61 shot. If that's accurate, I can't see any physical reason for them to have different bullet drop.

Of course, I don't know that they actually do have different drop. But if they do, that does seem weird.

Oh, that actually make a lot of sense.

That is pretty reasonable, thank you.

this actually isnt the full truth, the m4a1 and amx-13fl11 have the exact same muzzle velocity on the m61 shot.

Ok, first, I never said they were different in terms of velocity, it only seems that way as the FL11 uses higher power optics, making the drop seem different, even though it's the same as other M61 shots. Second, this thread is from March.

i didnt say you were wrong, i was just adding on, and i just recently got around to playing the amx-13(fl-11) and noticed thought the muzzle velocity was strange, also, i removed the part about it being historically accurate because i cant find my source. the amx-13 (fl-11) probably did have a higher muzzle velocity than the m4a1, but i can't find a number on it, and it would probably be lower than 700m/s still.

From the info I have found over time, around 600m/s is what I've commonly seen in regards to the SA49. Most of such info coming from the Panhard EBR serie 1951 which did use the shorter SA49. Though again, it's a really iffy area as there is not a ton of info on the SA49, yet tons on the SA50.
