They ARE the same, the hull MG was added after infantry rushed them.
They are the same visually mostly. The Elefant was a modified Ferdinand. The Elefant had thicker frontal armor and other minor changes.
Visually they would look nearly identical.
No, no it didn't, it was called "Ferdinand" while being developed and initially built before they changed the name to "Elefant", they're the same tank.
Edit: I stand corrected, sorry, they were the same vehicles but the designation change by Hitler was only after the upgrades were installed

All you would get from having the Elefant is an MG with a very small area of fire (but still would help a bit) and a small copula on top. The extra 100mm plates were bolted onto the Ferdinand as they intended to (and initally did) use them as heavy assault guns. Similar to a StuG, but with a bigger gun, and able to resist most enemy AT fire from the front to break through heavily defended Soviet lines.
