Why use a VTOL aircraft?

I understand that VTOL aircraft are cool and that they could take off and land vertically a year or 2 ago (I'm kinda sad they removed it, the youtube videos from 2019/2020 make it look super cool) but I don't really see why you would ever fly one over a normal fighter bomber, you get similar loadouts, better flight models and controls from a fighter bomber like the SU series and the F4's so why would anyone fly VTOL's when they have better options, plus some of them can be unlocked long before you even get to the VTOL aircraft in your preferred tree.

Is there any reason to get/fly one that I'm missing, yes I know the harrier has lots of counter measures which is nice but that doesn't make up for its flaws in other areas, at least for me.

VTOLs can still VTOL. They used to get airspawns so they were quick to get to bases or get an altitude advantage, but Gaijin forced them to spawn on the runway, because a lot of ground strike aircraft are still very good in air-to-air.

Gaijin removed all of the controls for vertical take off before I came back to the game (I left in 2018 and returned in May of 2021)

I don't think its removed? Isn't it "Thrust Vector" in Controls > Aircraft > Movement > 4th from below

thrust vector is under wing sweep for me and it doesn't do anything (also you have to manually add a button for thrust vector)

Cause there are at least two premium vertical take off planes from what I recall.


Man what if they skipped the tonks and just developed this in flight combat until the planes were finished... Planes would have been done by now, and tanks soon introduced... What a great title it could have been :]

IRL they don't use hover in combat as it drains fuel tremendously.

They don't work mate, sorry, I have friends who own them and I have wanted to like the Yak-38 and harrier because I want a fun fighter bomber for top tier but honestly without the VTOL ability I'd rather get the SU-22 or F-4 early hence the creation of this thread, I want a reason to still get the premium 38/harrier instead of grinding and getting the squadron fighter bombers and then grinding out the mods for them.

Not sure what you're talking about, I just used both those A/C and their hover and VTOL work perfectly fine.

I'm sure there are multiple guides on the internet on how to set up and use VTOL. One only needs to do a little search instead of making another complaint thread.

Unnecessarily condescending and lacking any ability to just talk like a normal person without needing to talk down to make yourself feel good? Yes.

VTOL does work in the game and it's application of being able to land/take off on small airfields and carriers apply even to this game, as iv seen players restock their harrier at helicopter bases, instead of backtracking to main base.

Not to mention if you would master thrust vectoring you could potentially win dog fights you would otherwise loose.
