Pros and cons of Japanese tanks

Pros & Cons
Average mobility
Average to below average armour
Average to below average guns
Lack of lineups.

Useful and usable but not exactly sticking out in any field I'd say.

agree with dresden,
at low level crap guns, past rb 3.3, some of them have very good guns.

Talking of the Type II guns with the Kou ammo?

Average Guns. They have a decent flat pen...but unlike most other guns atrocious angle pen, so atrocious that you actually have a not too small chance to bounce off a Sherman's or T-34s front.

Pretty good filler tho.

Chi-Nu 2 but yes, they come with the worse version, the so-called Type I. However, they also come with a superior battlerating where it is much more effective. Tho I wouldn't name Chi-Nu 2 since unless you shell out bucks, you won't be getting it.

It's basically the one shining ray of light in the japanese tree when it comes to pen before you get to the CHEAT-FS guns at which point armour doesn't matter anymore anyway.

The later Type II guns tend to get shafted by anything that angles.

So basically a bad gun doesn't exist because any gun can penetrate somewhere. Bad guns are just bad players.

More like good ammo. Guns are mostly average.
I'd also add suspension and optics to pros.

Pros:
-very low repair costs
-good filler
-good flat pen
-not common so players might not be familiar with your armor layout

Cons:
-All of your armor is in your front plates. A reserve 37mm can easily pen the Chi Ri from the side. Don't angle because of that.
-no pen whatsoever against slopes
-later imperial tanks are huge targets
-no real CAS options
