Also, there is already an option to enable/disable fictional skins in WarThunder. I've enabled it and there aren't much impact since the majority is just not doing any customisation on their tank, only choosing a base camo, putting a couple of bushes if they paid for them and they are done.
I was told by multiple people that the reason I listed was the reason no one can see your skin. I also can't see the custom skins I used and have downloaded and selected for my vehicle if I spectate myself in a replay. But I'm gonna check to make sure I'm not being an idiot again
Turns out you two were right and I'm just dumb. This defeats the entire point of this thread. Crap
Thats because server replays arent clientside
Thought as much, which further proves that I am dumb
Even if it would have been possible, personnally I'm against that idea.
When I play a game, I don't want to see a pink + yellow + rainbow camo on any teammate tank.
Nothing would be better to destroy the inmersion ingame.
It still can, limiting the number of people who can see it doesn't make it any less likely to be abused.
What if people make 8k skin files that the client has to load for everyone in the game? Basically bricking people with slower connections and making them wait longer to load in?
Imagine loading in that much information on one vehicle besides if you had 16 people on your team with custom files.
Or what if someone's custom skin has nudity, or bad symbolism on it? Sure you could make a report function for it, but that you've also got to put people in charge of handling everything having to do with custom files. That's kind of what War Thunder Live already does, but extending that to the entire game would be a massive undertaking.
In order for this, each and every skin will need a tag of what category it fits in, and someone to review each and every skin to make sure it's not labelled incorrectly. That's a lot of staff/manpower. It'd be like putting someone on DeviantArt and saying "okay every artwork that's posted we need to to tag it and make sure it doesn't break any rules."
Seems like an insurmountable task imo.
While I agree that there are some amazingly talented people out there making camos, the current system works just fine to ensure that abuse of it is limited with all of the international laws around (plus, common decency).
