No amount of Premium time/Premium vehicles will fix SL drains if you don't fix your fundamental game play first. Even with Premium account, if you rush out and die with a 12K repair cost vehicle without kills/point caps, you're going to continue to lose SL.
Gaijin generally adjusts repair costs on a vehicle based on how well players are milking SL with it. If it has a high repair cost, it's because the playerbase on average is getting high rewards with it. Unfortunately, this hurts lower skilled players until they bring up their own skill level to match what a vehicle is capable of in the right hands.
I think it's more important to look at what you're doing wrong to cause an SL drain to begin with and fixing your own game play habits than worrying about whether or not you should buy Premium as a fix to your game play habits. Premium Account rewards good play with even better rewards. It's not a crutch for bad play decisions.
Getting a 5-10 kill streak on the free premium tank you start with can net a 10k~ ish lions on a victory. At times if you manage to get even more, medals like heavy metal hero gives some extra SL ontop. It's how I grinded out millions of SL just by playing low BR battles.
also there is a +100% sl for battle time.
The problem here is that you will research new vehicles and will need to buy them with sl
to maximize sl gain you need to make a good lineup. That is all vehicles competitive with your chosen br.
Dont bring a 2.7 stuart with a 3.3 linup and stuff like that.
If you want to spend, spend in a premium vehicle to add to a good linup you already have.
It does not have a limited time of use.
if you want to grind even faster then get premium. premium vics dont run out but you buying premium for a week obviously will.
i take back what i said about talisman, just grab a premium vic
Once you buy premium & it runs out, you'll be reminded that it is out by a popup everytime you're on with no way of turning it off. No big deal but it sux lol.
Premium time ticks down even if you don't play, why i prefer premium vehicles,. (On discount)
Late ranks past 4 are a mess balance wise in a lot of places. might as well be contempt playing rank 1-4 tbh. Until they (if they) fix that.
3-4 is very slow without prem acc, a vehicle or two helps with unlocking the tree on those ranks.
after that it is f'd even with premium, going up to 170, 250, 400k for one vehicle. Complete nonsense.
It's like they keep the rp so high to avoid lot of players noticing how much work top tier needs.
(Well actually br adjustments shouldn't take years, but it does so..)
My normal account has premium, as said by others it affects research to the point that I could say I ripped through the tech tree.
this also means I didn't spend enough time in the first 2 years learning how to play well.
I'm an average player that sometimes playes great in mad nuts moments.
I'm a 2 to 4 kills in RB no deaths is my normal game.
premium means I don't care about SL at all,
I'm currently sitting on about 110 million SL.
I will say I don't play stupid repair cost vehicles.
My account without premium stopped at panther,
YES I could play but my SKILL level
meant that I was at panther struggling with not enough SL,
for me it wasn't the repair costs
but buying mods for vehicles that meant I never had enough SL for that or getting new vehicles.
SO yes you can play the game without premium.
I found that if for my skill I dropped down to pz 4, which are my favourite vehicles in the game I didn't have to worry about SL and could just enjoy the game.
You just have to find your skill level in the game, to break even for me it is around the pz4.
If you are going to buy premium do it ONLY when on SALE at half price,
Don't get me wrong, premium definitely helps your progress, but ~0 rewards times 2 (RP) or times ~1.5 (SL) is still ~0. If you really want premium, try to hold out for a sale, because Gaijin's prices aren't exactly generous.
On the time vs vehicle debate, consider this: premium vehicles are always there, but utterly useless whenever you don't use them in a match and can only help you research +1 rank above themselves without penalty. Premium time may run out, but it helps you no matter what vehicle or nation you happen to be using, and during the bigger sales one year of premium works out to $3-$4 USD per month, which is less than most MMO subscriptions.
Of course, if Gaijin keeps nerfing the economy, even premium players will struggle to make progress.
It gets better the higher you get, but it also get's more expensive the higher you get.
On premium time vs. premium vehicles:
A premium BR 3 German tank won't help you with researching BR 5+ German tanks, or any ships or planes, and it sure won't help you with any other nation (and you should turn off auto-repairs and cycle nations if you struggle with SL).
Premium time is time limited, but will help you at every BR, witth every nation, in every mode.
For both I'd wait on sales.
Maybe play the Summer event that is just around the corner. Sell some vehicles on the marketplace. Then you may be able to buy some premium time and/or premium vehicles in the next sale already without spending "real" money.
I did that to death in World of Tanks so many years ago, yes i know obviously they work differently but just playing anything for pure money making is incredibly boring, 1000 to 1500 matches in a tier 8 premium tank the Lowe.
I have used premium time very often in WT and to play seriously without it just doesn't work for me any more, that could be the trap though.
Even with premium time you can still lose money on the more costly line ups if you don't play them right but it certainly can mitigate the cost of some of those terrible matches.
