British Tree
Ive been playing War Thunder, mostly US and Germany, along with messing around with a few other nations here and there. I started to play GB and I cannot seem to understand whats good about these tanks. Im at 3.7-4.7 and everything seems to just be horrible, like mediocre guns, okay speed, negligent armor, nonexistent reverse speed, and overall mediocre solid shots that their tanks use. Is there any point in playing these over the US or Germany tech trees?

Honestly, apart from early adoption of stabilisers, no.

maybe endgame, but that's it. fitting fitting British vehicles into a BR where they're balanced is nigh impossible. You'd either have tanks that are un-killable due to high armour, or tanks that can't kill anything and can get killed by anything.

Thats what I find, on paper, their gun is good, especially at downtiers, but getting overtiered, it just becomes a dumpster fire.

The stabilizers are helpful somewhat, but comparing it to any Sherman just makes it worthless, especially since the Cromwells struggle to penetrate and kill, whereas the Shermans have explosive fillers

There are a handful of decent vehicles in the British tree below Rank V, namely the Centurion Mk.1, Sherman Firefly, Achilles(lol 3.3 with 190mm pen) and Comet to name a few. A few others will name some more but those are my personal favourites below Rank V.

At Rank V Britain becomes arguably the top dog with very early full-stabilisers, APDS and HESH rounds then of course there is the FV4005. They do lack some mobility and they are expensive though.

Rank VI and VII are medicore for the most part with the odd hidden gem like the Rooikat MTTD.

Not the Cromwells, the Centurions.

Early vertical stabilisers are in the American tree, but full two-plane stabilisation for universal tanks/medium tanks comes up for the Brits first, and doesn't have a speed cap for them either

So you've been playing with the most pampered faction, and with the second most pampered one. Anything will feel underwhelming after that. Especially British ground forces that require more knowledge and patience to be effective than any other nation.

They have plenty of good qualities that vary between vehicle types and battle ratings. The only unifying good quality is that they all have amazing guns and kind of unfortunate selection of ammo. This makes them all good for sniping, but precision required to achieve anything makes it feel like you're "sniping" even at close range.

Also some of them are fairly mobile and most of them are fairly survivable, some are great in hull-down position. They are all difficult to use effectively and that makes them more rewarding - or more infuriating to use depending on your personality.

17pdr are going to be your bread and butter for a lot of the tree. You get a 5.7-6.0 gun as early as 3.0.

The Achilles nerf of making it rank 2 was annoying as hell but the premium one is still rank 3 so you can do events with it.

Your normal line up will start at 4.7 with Firefly/Avenger and then some planes.

You need to know shot placement with the 17pdr so you can 1 shot tanks.

Well when I started playing this game, there was only US, Germany, and Russia, so naturally yes. I enjoy their speed, but the nonexistent reverse gear is a major annoyance.

Ive been playing since like 2014 or something, so long I cant remember, so I know where to shoot on the majority of tech trees, other than the newer tanks like the Swedes.

Planning takes care of that issue almost entirely. At least their guns have decent depression unlike the Soviets that can neither reverse nor depress.

The British tree is my first. I like it and I enjoy it but it is a lot more difficult to play than the German, American or Russian tree, at least, I find it so. The tank that I play a lot of is the Valentine IX.

What I like about the vehicles is the gun depression. The guns and armour are nothing to scream about.

As for progressing in the British tree, if you expect it to get better, there is really no pay off at the end, at least, this is my impression.:mailedfist:

Not really. It is more difficult to play due to no filler, but I have never run into a tank I couldn't kill if I was in a proper lineup.

Wait till you try out the Italian and Japanese tanks to appreciate the British tanks. At least the British tanks got some acceptable amount of armor. I have not tried the Swedish tech tree and the Chinese one is just a mix until cold war era.

Unless you dealing with Tank Destroyers, Matilda, Valentine, and Churchill have decent armor for their BR I think. Their guns have depression but their damage they do is depressing.

Cromwell and Firefly are probably the most fun tanks in the British tech tree.

Ive messed around with the Italian and Swedish trees a bit and dont really mind them as much, I just have a strong distaste for shells with no filler, probably since my first trees, being US and Germany have fillers for most, if not all, of their tanks
