Radar AA not working
I'm trying to do the BP challenge where you have to destroy air targets with ground vehicles and vice versa, and because planes are even harder to see in ground RB since Direct ♥♥♥♥ dropped, I decided to use my Gepard, since it's currently my only good radar guided AA vehicle, and discovered that for some reason, the radar system sometimes just forgets an enemy plane exists, what happens is that he gets pinged once on my radar, then my radar literally doesn't pick him up until after a teammate in an M247 has already shot him down, then my radar detects him fine, only problem is that I can't kill a plane that has already been killed. Why is this happening?

Nope, I've had times where I could see the target high in the sky with nothing even close to blocking my radar's view of it, and idk how chaff works, but it couldn't have been that either because for some reason half the air targets I encounter are rank 3/4 planes and those don't have chaff.

Even if it was something obstructing my radar somehow, it doesn't explain how the M247 can lock on to the target when it's right next to me, sometimes even physically touching me.

Radar mechanics are incredibly buggy in this game. At times it refuses to detect jets which are within optimal detection zone and other times it detects aircrafts which it shouldn't be able to.

3rd person view locking also breaks at times, but 1st person gunner view locking tends to work most of the time.

Once i did manage to fix my M247 radars lack of detection, by turning radar off and on again, but it's not reliable method. Worth a try however.


On related note. You won't beat M247 in contest to shootdown jets, as it has way superior ammunition compared to your gepard.

I already knew that last one, but for me, radar always worked fine until Direct Hit dropped, so maybe that screwed it up somehow

Radar detects targets only if there is a change in distance from you so a plane at a constant distance eg going sideways to you may not be detected.

I know, but sometimes it just refuses to detect the target when it's flying directly at me at like 800 kph.

I assure you most of the time that is not the issue. Iv been staring at so many jets that are blatantly flying within my optimal detection area and is completely unable ping it. Yet ping jets that are actually attempting to be stealthy.

There are also other types of bugs, like if locked jet gets too close to you and does minor evasion it causes your radar-tracking to pull your turret in non-stop 360 spin beyond it's turn rate. It's so bad you might think it will take off like a helicopter.

That reminds me, something else I've experienced is that when a jet gets close enough to the ground, the radar lock thinks the jet has gone underground for some reason, and pulls my sight as far down as it's depression will allow, wether I try to fight it or not, so I have to quickly turn off my radar tracking because 9/10 times in that situation it's an A4E with 3 bullpups with my name on them
