In game it's the deafening ringing sound you get from concussion. That's one of ways how you can encounter it in real life.

It isn't necessarily connected to hearing loss as far as I know, but most of that knowledge comes from the internet so yeah. Anyway. According to what I've read, a significant portion of people who experience it in modern world (or at least report having the symptoms) have nothing physically wrong with them as far as doctors could tell.

I've been out of the Army for 10 years now. When I was in, I shot left handed. Didn't always wear ear protection. Shooting left, I'd aim with my left eye, so due to my head being tilted left my left ear was closest to everything.

Every so often, I'll get a random ring and a static like buzz in my left ear, that goes away after like 15 seconds. Hoping and praying it's not a sign of something worse down the road.

my left ear constantly rings and hisses. i am also gradually losing my hearing in that ear. no ear pro and a 338 LM popping off beside you will do that. Sometimes its overwhelming and causes major anxiety. Take care of your hearing guys.

The tinnitus is the blood pumping and making the eardrum vibrate, usually because of damage, it gets worse when it's healing... if it doesn't heal (holes too big) then you can have it forever.
