how to do well in a naval battle as a light cruiser?

i currently have the emden and can't seem to kill anyone because most of my opponents are heeavy cruisers and even dreadnoughts which are mostly impenetrable even with AP rounds

i'm trying to get the german dreadnoughts, and the emden sucks balls, AP can't even penetrate heavy cruisers, and HE does next to nothing, do the italians have better ships?

It's all about teamwork, try to get your friends to target the big boys and gang up, as for for dreadnoughts, just avoid. If you can't get your teammates to gang up, go for the easier destroyers and avoid the CA and BB.

you speak as if i had a friend, and the problem with going for destroyers is CLs and above have different spawns than destroyers so you get demolished before you even get to the DD part of the map

Just main HE. You're not going to kill much, but you'll start fires all over the place and end up with some nice surprise kills. You'll do a lot of damage spread out against a lot of targets so you'll bump your score up and get a lot of assists.

I play US Naval in RB with a 4.7 to 5.7 lineup (the 4.7 DD's, plus Atlanta, Northampton and Cleveland since they need spading; my Trenton and Raleigh already spaded) and this is what I tend to do against the CAs and BBs I face and it works decently enough.
