Is the French Yak-3 worth it?

I am not too experienced with planes yet which is why I would like to ask what players think of the French Yak-3. To me it looks a little underwhelming at first glance for a 4.0 BR plane especially when comparing it to other planes of a similar or lower BR but then again I do not know much about planes yet.

So please, someone enlighten me.

Is there something I am not seeing?
Does it excel at something particular?
Is it overall worth it? If yes, why? What makes it good?

I bought it because i had a -50 for it and i wanted it for my French planes collection. I didn't play it enough to give pro and cons about it, but i had fun with it, it's one of the plane i used to grind the event and it did pretty well, but no enough ammo :D.

It`s just a hole filler in French lineup, not particularly great because Russian 20mm cannons are pretty rubbish. Guess there are worse planes out there, it`s often in warbonds so better get it from there then buy it.

Yeah, that's why I am asking. It's either the Yak-3 or the coupons for me this month :D

I`m going for Ta 154 A-1 myself, from what I have seen it`s a beast with good climb rate and massive firepower, anybody who tries to head-on this plane will be sorry.
Also it`s not often in warbonds.

It's just a Yak-3 but in the French tree, just grind the free one in the Soviet tree if you want it (which I don't recommend because Soviet 20mm cannons are the worst in the game).

I would personally suggest getting the one in the russian tech tree as it is not a premium, playing it a bit and than decide if it's worth it.

In my personal opinion tho, it is worth it, it's not a good diver as it can't go that fast, but it turns really well, it goes really fast in a straight line at low altitudes and while the 20mm cannon is mediocre at best, the 2 berezin UB 50. cals do a good job at setting everything on fire.

You also have the bonus of fighting cocky Bf 109 players that think they can go into a dogfight with you and win, which surprise, surprise, it ain't gonna happen.

Looks like I will most likely be getting the Ta 154 over the Yak-3 then.
