fraps it
3rd party recording software
Well, are they files on your computer? If so, you could just make a copy of the file and save it. I don't know if they are stored locally or on a server.

thats not the problem, they are not video files, they are a replay format (.wrpl) which can only be played by warthunder, and when warthunder is updated they can become incompatible. the only way to save them is to convert them to an actual video with screen capture software like fraps

2 way they expire

1.You didn't name them and they got overwritten

2.New update make it incompatible

Only way to permanently save it is to record the replay with a third party software (im using Nvida shadowplay)

As everyone else said, you have to record it with third party software. The reason why is that (as it as been explained to me) the "recording" is just a recollection of all imputs by all players thus creating a "replay" without taking nearly as much space. Same reason why you can't rewind it either. So when the game updates and flight models change they invalidate as the replay would no longer be the same
well thats kinda dumb on gaijins part, imeplement a replay feature that only lest you watch replays from a short time ago.

its not an unusual system for doing it, and its the reason you can watch replays from annyones point of veiw or free camera around, the 'replay' is litterally just reconstructing the match. the problem only comes from the fact that unlike other games the way things work in WT is more likely to change

The reason why the replays "expire" is because the replay is a recording of the results from all the instructions and inputs from clients to the server. As each individual version of War Thunder may differ in instruction execution, running a replay from an older version would produce wierd/bad/incompatable results with the current replay client and probably a fatal error.

There are two solutions to keeping replays "fixed' across versions:

1. Include a copy of each previous replay client (or a limited selection of replay clients). This isn't feasable because you basically need copies of the client and the client is BIG. Even if you make sure you correctly cross-reference the shared resources appropriately, you're still left with miles and miles of dead code.

2. Forward-proof your design. This is infeasable because it would require enterprise-level planning and execution with endless testing and retesting. Microsoft barely manages to do it, I can't see Gaijin managing the same.
