R60's are terrible compared to AIM9's

It's because of the field of view that the actual seeker head has. All of the AiM-9 Sidewinders from the B to the J have a 2 or 2.5 degree FOV, the Soviet R-model missiles have a 5.5 degree FOV, which is large enough for flares to have a significant effect and also for the missile to sail off after friendly aircraft, ground heat, or the sun.
