That's not true.
AIM-9 missiles do have a lock tone, it was the only way a pilot would know he had one locked on target without more modern targeting computers.
However, I think you're thinking of the missile warning which isn't something older jets would have, though modern jets do have missile approach warning systems that can detect all types of missiles, alerting the pilot to their presence (pretty much what the old warning was)
Compare that to the new missile sounds, which overpower everything and you can hear them being fired 3km behind you, which doesn't even make sense.
