Premium T-55 AM-1 or Leopard A1A1?

Ive been thinking about trying out the Ruskie's in GF RB, but im torn with that or the Leopard? The Leopard has a 120mm gun with a good APFSDS round having 393mm of pen at 9.0. Seems like a glass cannon, but at this BR armor doesnt really matter. The T-55 looks pretty solid at 8.3 and looks like it would help down the tank line at a decent rate. But is it fun? The turret traverse looks a little slow, but the armor seems decent HULL DOWN at range. It has APFSDS with 335 mm of pen at 8.3 which is decent at that BR. But how is it? USSR is the only nation i havent really touched yet, Would anyone recommend the T-55 to research the Russian tech tree? Thanks.

Leo is the hands down a money maker. Been using it since it was 8.7 and even with the upteir its still a great tank. The T55AM1 isn't that good in general. There's reason why its now 8.3 when it use to be 8.7 and before that 9.0

Depends on which tree you want to grind top tier for, but the Leo L/44 is the better tank here.

one has thermals one does not, both face thermals, yes one more than the other.

thermals changed the game, I'd rather be in a warrior at br 8 with thermals than a tank without.

Mind you, if you play AB and not RB, then that changes everything, I'd go for the lower br every time.

All good points. I play RB, AB tanks is too WOT for me. Thermals is a huge deal now. Not that i like it, cuz now everytime i look through my sights in high tier, Its now only white hot, or black hot. lol. I want the T-55, but the Leopard just sounds better and more proficient in every way, and the fact that the T-55 does not have thermals, means some hard up-tiers at 9.3 with XM-1s flying around, with thermals...

Yep, not having thermal sucks. You will get killed by people you simply couldn't see and you will also miss out on free kills. Tho it's not the end of the world at 8.3 as most tanks at that BR do in fact not have thermals, so you can get by. And on small maps the T55 am really works.

Frankly I can't give a verdict on which one to buy.
T55 is a city brawler/downtier clubber
And Leo is a very good medium tanks that works wonders if you know how to use thermals

Yeah. Although I got my first tank with thermals recently (a Bradley, which has gunner thermals only) and I develop really bad habits with it. Using my binoculars less. Playing less smart. Thinking I can sit there with my turret visible to enemies just because thermals make me think I will shoot first. I need to mix in some of my old skills more.

you have to switch between the 2 constantly, I moved my buttons around so I could do it on the mouse.

I always knew about thermals but the other month I was at about 7 kills in my chief mk 3 and happy, I knew there was a leo going through our team but not what type or how.

From our deaths on the mini map I knew which direction he/she was coming from.
I shot and killed is3 then blew up.

couldn't see it, didn't know where it was till I blew up.

I watched replay, started at one spawn point and just drove towards us past one spawn onto the 2nd.
constantly switched between the thermals and not,
killing things that couldn't see him, I was the 12 kill for them.

so not in a city, no point if you are facing thermal tanks without it.

Absolutely, in the hands of a experienced player thermals will make all the difference.
The only way to succeed on a large map without thermals is to rush from hard cover to hard cover (rocks...). But this really restricts you to only a few spots

T55 comes with a strong missile and some armor you can pen everything at 8.7 with a good crew be it on short range or long range you will have a good time.

There are rumors of a new soviet premium mbt in the next update maybe you should wait before you purchase anything of the old stuff.

The AM-1 is really optimised vs my lineup, as it has amazing turret protection vs my missiles and HEAT. Despite that, I still fear the A1A1 more. If that means much, then I guess the A1A1 is a clear winner. I do have an unhealthy fear of thermals though.

Yeah. I don't normally grumble about pay to win at all. But the Leo A1A1 really seems like that. With its bonus big gun AND thermals.
