T-62 3BM3 vs 3BM4
At the moment I use 3BM4 due to the better penetration at smaller angles, however ever since the World War Event I am quite unsure as to what is the actual better shell. The 3BM4 was ricocheting spots on the M48s and M60s that I did not expect to ricochet, on the other hand the 3BM3 was penetrating ROUGHLY the same spots and around the same distance as well as angle of attack.

In normal matches I mostly encounter Germany, Italy and Sweden for which the 3BM4 generally works in most cases.

However when up against US and British who contain the likes of the Chieftans, M60s etc what is actually the better shell to use.

Ideally I would like to carry only one type of APFSDS as I do have a few HEATFS as well.

Im not sure if my advice is very good, but having apfsds as ammo option in any MBT is all i carry to battle, even if its a low pen. round, the balistics on those rounds make them easier to use at any range, we just need to know where to shoot.
Angled piercing power is what matters most i think, 1 example are the british MBts, stock apfsds has 410mm piercing power and the upgraded ammo has like 396mm but more angled piercing power so its better in most situations.

Most tanks you'll face have either no armour or sloped armour. Hence the 3BM4 shell is better, a lot of the American tanks have sloped armour at 60°, so the shell performing better at steep angles is preferable. Most of the flat parts of armour that you couldn't penetrate with the 3BM4, you also wouldn't be able to penetrate with the 3BM3.

Also, since it only sits at 8.3, only using HEAT-FS is also an option, though I haven't tested that yet. Technically it would be the best option unless you're sniping.

Last year HEATFS seemed like it was actually quite good, now days it just not resemble what I experienced, I only carry it for certain situations (very few of them), especially when someone peaks with their hull a little too much, for which they are immobile due to my first shot (APFSDS), second shot would be the HEATFS to do more damage to parts of the tank I can not hit with APFSDS.

@=JOB=novastorm//pt\\ GENERALLY I prefer more damaging shells with lower pen for example APCBC instead of APCR or better against angles like the case with the T-62. The 3BM3 has A LOT more Penetration than the 3BM4 in this case.

Also another question, how much effect does having a 'STEEL' APFSDS (3BM4) do in this game?

Yeah, using HEAT-FS you need to aim for ammo racks, so on most NATO MBT's that'd be the lower right side of the hull or the back of the turret, depending on what you fight.

I don't know if spalling of the dart is affected in game, but I can imagine that the steel APFSDS is taken into account in Gaijins formula, considering that for being APFSDS rounds, the T-62 ammo is garbage compared to even contemporary APDS rounds, nevermind other APFSDS rounds.

I undesrtand you, solid shot in this case apfsds with good aim it will insta kill targets, ofc players need to get used to it, hitting critical points in order to kill, few days ago i made a few kills from 3km using those on European province map, when we get used to it its the easiest round to use...
