How good are the hispano cannons?

Hispano MK II's and MK V's are decent, but not the most powerful cannons in the game by a long chalk.

Here's a trick you can do to confirm this (not that it needs confirming): Do a test flight, fly to a river or the sea, shoot in the water and watch how big the splash is. For all Hispanos, the splash is small, but 20mms etc of other nations make a much bigger splash...........

wait...i could have sworn the hispano cannons were super OP


i used them in the P-51(quad hispano cannons) and they seem to insta-kill planes with little effort

it also destroys bombers with a few shots too


or was it recently nerfed?

It takes a lot more than a couple shots. I only get hits using the hispanos even while using air targets.

It takes a lot more than a couple shots. I only get hits using the hispanos even while using air targets.

Maybe the US hispano cannons are different from the British hispano cannons?
different type of rounds/modifications?

i just shoot a few rounds at the enemy plane in burst fire and they die easily

The cannon mustang uses british belts; they are the exact same cannons. It comes down to garbage hit detection and server side RNG; ive sparked just as much in my mustang as a tempest.

i typicaly have to lead a ways ahead of the lead mark to get center mas hits in the mustang but thos hits do MASSIVE damage to most fighters less than a second burst kills almost anything im chasing everthing else catches fire

The early Hispanos are somewhat bad. They jam fast and usually dont have enough ammo. However the Hispano mk5s that later planes get are really good with air target belts. The main way of doing damage is by simply tearing planes wings off due to the sheer amount of HEI/HE shells hitting the plane. I would say MG-151s are much better for killing bombers however, because Hispanos lack any form of penetration on their shells, which means that they struggle to knock out engines and set fires.

My personal experience is that the Hispano cannons are fantastic! It doesn't mater if I'm in AB or RB, in a mustang or a spit I put a few rounds on target and boosh that pilot is mucho dead. My thoughts are that I love them. It's only a shame that the spit only had 120 rounds of them, but I find that it's just enough to score a bomber kill and a few fighter kills when well aimed.
