Meanwhile the OP is asking for if a certain bomber which can certainly raise hell on bases is worth it or not.
I still bring it out in custom battles from time to time though or use it in the mission editor. Admittidly, the lancaster was the aircraft i most wanted ever since i started the game and i got it for its looks and pride more than anything else. Took almost 2 years of dropping out the game, filling other tech trees, losing motivation until i finaly got it. You could as others have said get it within 1-2 weeks. Was all the time worth it? Couldn't really tell you, but im glad i have it atleast.
Research to the 14 x 1000lb bombs first and use this bomb load as it has the highest TNT total. I can't remember, but I think you need 11 or 12 of the1000lb bombs to destroy a full base.
When flying it, fly to either the left or right hand base while climbing, watch the enemy team and the direction they're going. If you have a lot of climbing enemy fighters, dive as most won't follow you, you can usually get one full base if they do follow you, that's between 25k-30k SL. If you have climbing friendly fighters, follow them across the map as they'll clear the way, they also appreciate how enemy fighters focus on your Lanc and leave themselves as easy targets to be shot down. Every now and then, I get shot down before being able to do anything, but not often.
I have a Lanc lineup with both of them and the BR is 5.0. If you get shot down, watch the flow of the game to see if you should bring your second Lanc out. If the enemy has altitude superiority, there's no point. Grab a fighter and have some fun until the skies clear.
I targeted the Lanc and Mosquito when I first started WT. I was not disappointed in getting them. It takes a bit of practice to fly them right, but they can be very successful. When you see your name at the top of the leaderboard with over 80 tons of TNT, it feels fantastic. :-)
