In WoTs you get out of cover and sit there like an idiot for 10 seconds because if you don't your shell is going to miss by a country mile, but it still misses anyways because a sliver of your RNG sphere was outside the tank.
In War Thunder you get out of cover, fire while adjusting for range and get back into cover all in as low as 3 seconds.
Used to play WoT all the time and personally WT blows it out of the water
- better graphics by far
- WT is far more balanced. People who complain about WT uptiers havent seen ♥♥♥♥ compared to WoT uptiers
- Do you enjoy being bombed by planes? Well imagine bombs except 1000x more annoying, omnipotent and just as lethal. Thats WoT artillery
- Do you enjoy your shots missing by miles over short distances? Well youll be having alot of that with WoT, enjoying trying to hit weakspots on tanks with more armor, probably twice your health and twice your damage. If youev ever used the L7 105mm cannon in WT (found on several british vehicles and the Leo 1) that thing has a tendency to shoot several hundred meters short or several meters to the right or left. Very annoying. Now consider if EVERY shot you ever took was out of the L7 and the accuracy was worse. Thats what its like shooting in WoT
- Annoying spotting mechanics, last i played WoT, TD's as a whole were useless, heavy tanks had better camo and were easier to hide than TD's (look up spotting mechanics if you dont know them in WoT)
- Gold ammo (ammo that is extremely expensive, can be bought by either silver or gold, premium. currency and is much better than regular ammo)
-Maps are small and boring, lanes lanes lanes lanes lanes. Three lanes actually. And expect the same tanks to go the same places almost every match. Tedium to the max
- Researching stuff can be painful as you can either research either a module or the next tank, and often the next tank is locked behind a module (say a new gun, which is objectively better than the one you use) In WT, almost all modules are MINOR upgrades to the tank, but in WoT, especially the gun upgrade, makes a huge difference to the tank (look up the T29 with the 76mm on the sherman E8 as an example)
- in WoT you can only have so many tanks at a time. Want more? Well you have to sell them and buy them back at original price. Have fun with that
- in WoT, entire game is basically RNG. Where your rounds go? Random. Damage done per shot? Random. Very fun i assure you /s
Overall, WoT is just infuriating. War Thunder on its worse day has always been 100x more pleasant. Quit WoT around 2015, redownloaded it once in 2019 and immediately uninstalled after a single match. Glad i abandoned it in 2015, even moreso in 2019. Clearly im very biased against WoT, but i played somewhere around 16-18 thousand matches, if that lends any credence to my ranting
I think WoT has a better penetration system? I don't know but I think the one on WoT works more than War Thunder. I know tanks in War thunder are way more complicated.
WT is far more balanced. People ♥♥♥♥♥ about "my POOR TIGER gets killed by HEATFS" when your poor little tiger will have 0 problem 1 shotting the thing shooting HEATFS 99% of the time.
Any tank in WT, as long as its not tier 1 and has reasonable pen, has a good chance to kill every other tank in the game via player skill or good positioning.
WoT not so much. If a tank is a higher tier than you, theres a 99% chance the enemy tank HAS better armor, HAS more health, and HAS a better gun. It is objectively better in all respects and no amount of flanking will make you kill it any faster. Perhaps itll take a minimum of 5 shots to kill a big heavy tank in WoT with a heavy tank of a lower tier, but thats minimum. THats considering RNG rolls in your favor every shot. Then you can usually be 2-3 shot by the big boy
At least in WT a shot to the side is a shot to the side and almost always 1 shots or cripples regardless of the tank, unless its armor is spaced and youre using HEAT or extra thick like the maus, and regardless of tier. I far prefer WTs balancing than WoT
The thing about WoT system is that there is a range of pen. A gun using a standard round may have a range between 150mm and 250mm (i think it was a +/- 25% off of the base, so in this example the base pen would be 200mm) and range was irrelevant to the calculation. And it can roll high or low any time it wants which can royally screw you over when compounded with the RNG spread of your rounds, which can leave the barrel at physically impossible angles.
I think there was a huge update to WoT a couple years ago and they changed how shooting mechanics work. Id imagine its still RNG based and maybe with distance effecting pen, as it takes distance into account now. Much of the fundamentals of WoT are still there, which are the problem for me, but the specifics may be different than when i last played.
WT RNG is definately not fun and should be removed in RB and updated to be more accurate, but i prefer WT RNG cause even though it rolls stupid rolls, like non penning an ostwind in my FV4005 with HESH at 10m but at least its maybe 1/50 shots or whatever where something ridiculous happens. Theres at least consistency whereas WoT was just whatever it wanted to be whenever it wanted to be.
For me I massively prefer War Thunder. I've tried to like WoT several times over the years but I cannot stand the spotting system (a tank can be in the middle of an open field, 300 meters away, and be completely invisible due to it's "camo rating"), absolutely garbage crew skills that you have to pay real money to stop your shots pinging off into the next postcode every time you fire (or just play hundreds and hundreds of games to level it), one tank at a time and if you die you cannot use that tank again until the game ends, premium ammo (pay real money per shot for ammunition. That says it all really. Yes you can use in-game credits to buy it too, but it'll bankrupt you), nonsensical armour and penetration values, it's all made up for the sake of "balance", fake armour, fake shells, fake penetration. Fake tanks, like 70% of the tanks in WoT are either blueprint only or completely pulled out of wargaming's ass.
Right..WT balanced..good joke. Like the good KA-50? Or IS-7 when it was released? :) But i think you dont get the point that this two games are different games. Yes, and people are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about WW 2 vs Cold War era tanks because its not really fair. A lot of WW 2 tanks trade mobility for armor..but armor is pretty much useless when you have something with 400 pen. At least wot doesnt give just one nation new mechanics..and waits like 6 month until the rest gets it. (2S6 *coughcough*) Oh i just looked the 2S6 was released march 10. So it took more then 6 month until every nation ad something what can shoot rockets and plans.
The primary problem for me with WoT is the arty class. It's never going to be balanced and flat out shouldn't be in the game, yet WG will never remove it. They'll try to balance it until the end of days with no success.
im acutely aware of the tradeoffs between time periods and i still manage just fine using WW2 tanks against post war tanks. I hope youre not one of those people who think MM by year would be anything except a massive disaster. Ive put probably a couple thousand hours into both, so im pretty aware of the differences.
trading armor for mobility and vice versa extends far beyond ww2 and is basically the man trade off until the 70s when nations began opting for mobility over armor. So you have about 25 years of traditional ww2 tank doctrine extending from 1945 until 1970.
Why do you not think that armor as a tradeoff for mobility and pen with most of these tanks with 400mm of pen? Is that not a tradeoff? Do you not consider a tank with almost no armor and survivability and almost always one shotted having a gun which can pen whatever it wants not a balanced tradeoff? Thats the whole concept of the glass cannon, except the cannon really isnt even that good.
Here ive assembled a list of tanks with HEATFS at 7.7 or lower and will sort them into heavy, medium and lightly armored
Heavy:
M103
T-54 (1951)
Medium:
M46
M47
M48
M60
Magach 3
M48A2C (german)
mKpz M47 (german)
M48(China, no explicit data on wiki saying it has HEATFS, but it is assumed)
M47 (italy)
Light:
M56
T92
leKPz M41
Jpz 4-5
RU 251
Leo 1
Su-122-54
OBJ120
Type 62 (russian) (edit: changed T62 to Type 62)
ASU85
PT76
STA1
STA2
STB1
Type 61 (japan)
Type 62 (china)
Type 63-I (China)
PT76 (China)
M36B1 (Italy)
AUBL/74 (italy)
AML-90 (France)
AMX-13-90 (France)
Ivk 91(Sweden)
Feel free to add anything i missed, most likely something swedish or chinese or italian. But among this list of tanks, really only a grand total of 3 can be difficult to pen, M103 (mass produced in 1952), T54-1951 (in testing in 1945, approved for mass production in 1946 and fitted with a new turret in 1951) and the M48/M60. So perhaps this list will give you some insight into why i dont buy the "well it has heatfs therefore it MUST be too good to fight ww2 tanks" argument
