Fly away from the battle straight until about 600-700kmh, then climb and continue doing this until at a sufficient altitude. It's laborious for sure but neccessary if you want to have any altitude before being bounced by enemy fighters.
As always too, keep it fast. I'd say above 600 at all time, 500 at minimum. Early jets accelerate extremely slowly so keep your energy and don't get suckered into an energy trap or turnfight. The F-84 is miles faster than the R2Y2 (which aside from its guns is pretty poor now) and sufficiently faster than anything German provided you have energy.
As for the guns, personally I really do not like 50cals on jets. Some people swear by them but I can't stand them. A good burst will decimate but I struggle to aim them at jet speeds, so not much advice I can offer there.
Statcards don't tell the whole story too, don't believe them. A 30s turn on the card doesn't translate into the same in-game (iirc statcard turn is full 360 with rudder so basically never gonna happen in RB).
