its only useful for newbies
When you are firing a 682 m/s shell, with a best reload speed of 12s (like mine), on big maps like Kursk or Mozdok, is thay still the case?
I have been playing for well over a year and still use it quite often. I don't bother if I am firing APFSDS etc.
It can only be good news for drivers of the Centurion AVRE :)
no idea if it is just sim or you are able to in rb, but I've seen vids of top br where they use the range finder and it auto sets the gun to that range, fire, dead target.
Laser range finders are quick, use, get the range, fire, kill, don't give your position away till after the shot and don't need shots for ranging. They are very good.
so ignore mr range finders are for newbies, he just makes stuff up and is probably just confused again.
Yeah I occasionally use that in ground RB. The thing that slides your target reticle up or down to make your gun temporarily default to a particular range. Absolutely essential for tanks like the Centurion AVRE, otherwise you can't shoot it at all out to longer distances. I have my PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN and HOME buttons set for it (to increase range, decrease range, or go back to usual range).
On the topic of which, Phly's latest youtube video yesterday was a hoot. They ended up with about ten players all with Sturmpanzers moving and attacking in a line. Lobbing, yes, but from a kilometre away.
Subjective opinion is subjective

•In SB mode, vehicles with laser rangefinders and gun stabilizers automatically adapt their sights to the measured range.
so I was half right, works in sb.
Nice. Didn't know that. Yeah different to the non-auto thing I use.
yeah, I was watching a vid, can't remember why, when the I think it was a challenger 2 went,
laser ranger finder, range changed, bang, russian t something or other blew up..............in about a second.
I was errrr, what did I just see........then he did it again a few more times.
Only in sim thank god......at the moment.
I ain't no noob; though I have been known to imitate one from time to time. ;-)
For tanks with APDS, APFSDS, the trajectories are so flat that errors in estimating the range instinctively are minimized. You're vulnerable while sitting there range finding; so, yeah, in that case I mostly skip the range finder too.
Likewise, fights using slower AP/APHE that are at/under ~800m, I am able to estimate the range faster, well enough, not to want to delay taking the shot to use a range finder.
But when playing tanks that use low velocity APHE, or HE; with trajectories that make accurate range finding at distances of 600+m much more critical; where reloads can take 20+seconds, or longer. And each shot HAS to count. I feel that It simply makes good sense to use the range finder - and I do use it... except when I need to fire now, and can't risk the delay.
