How to read crashlogs?
My game's crashing a few times out of nowhere every couple of hours and it's getting really annoying.

I tried reading the logs but they seem to be encrypted.

How could I decrypt them to figure out what the issue is?

You don't They aren't for you to read obviously. You gotta send them in a report to the devs.

"Obviously"

Most of my games let me read my crashlogs, why wouldn't these be for me to read?

Why would I have to send the logs to Gaijin and wait for ages for a reply when I could just read them myself and potentially fix the issue?

because you don't have access to the code (or at least should not be messing with it) they do and they are the ones that release bug patches.
also yeah I know a lot of single player games that let me read crash logs and have a debug tool but this ain't single player is it

Now you're just messing with me.

What even is your correlation between having access to the code and being able to read crash logs?

Are you mocking me?

What does it have to do with this game not being single player either? I can list you games that allow me to read crash logs in plain text and are multiplayer.

I hope you're not confusing crash LOGS with crash DUMPS at this point, otherwise I cannot comprehend why you would try to have a say in a topic you don't understand.

well then I guess when you say you want to potentially fix the issue. you mean from your end and that maybe it was caused by you pc or something. just don't know how you would fix their game without the EAC thinking you've messed with game files (should have said games files not code tbh). also I don't get encrypted crash reports it tells me what files failed causing the crash

Okay, you're seriously confusing me right now.

Where would you get the idea that reading crash logs would even remotely have anything to do with messing with game files, let alone "code" as you call it?

How do you even confuse game files with code? Those are two very different levels.

Why would EAC think I've messed with game files by reading logs? Are you aware you can even delete crash logs and it doesn't make a difference?

Do you know how crash logs help to potentially fix an issue?

I don't even get what you mean by "also I don't get encrypted crash reports it tells me what files failed causing the crash"

Let me be real simple and clear so you understand.

"Me want read crash log to see error message"

Clear enough?

I want to read the crash log to see if there's any potential issue being caused by my system running out of memory, having incompatible drivers and/or processes that cause the crash, or if any particular video configuration is causing it .

I don't want to:

A) Tamper with game files
B) Tamper with game code (???????????)

Allow me to provide one line of the logs so you understand what I mean by encripted.

in this line you should see a timestamp of the crash, instead it says:

ÀÒÞ É«Bö6ÇW¤þÓiIK£›åÝj·Å¥œh}ÛiËË1»§–l|ÔDIÊXYõá. àÇ¡4‘ûˆÇþq:!~Íò> ÝôÂlßîîN%§nÝ~È)Ús‰ã¿¬ã¸m`þ<í ’ÒÎÜi/oÒÝC,~Ø߇I"™]Ýöâö-ìû6x”ûnˆÜí|>

I hope this all is clear enough, cause you seem quite confused and/or to be talking nonsense.

first off *.clog files are not crash logs but client logs - they may or may not contain valuable information about crashes next to the massive amount of general client messages... and yes, some crashes may be caused by issues on the players system (for instance certain 3rd party tools can cause the client to crash or driver mixups like there have been on some systems with the latest nVidia drivers that did not install properly) where reading those logs may be helpful but...

why Gaijin decided to encrypt the client logs is unknown to me (afaik there has not been any official statement about it) but i would guess it could be due to the client logs containing game information that could be used by cheat coders (to better understand the client) or to protect the privacy of player (since those client logs are often posted on public forums) or maybe even to protect their own IP

Ahem, I never said *.clog files were specifically crash logs?

Although the logging is all done within them, so the logs of the crash (crash logs) are in the client log files.

Now, as to why you're providing me with all this information, I'm unsure. All I want to know is if there is a way to read them because I want to solve my issue.

I did ask the other guy why wouldn't I be able to read them, but it's not something I really care for.

Do you know if there's a way to read the log files or not?

yes. (and the answer to your next question is no... unfortunately).

if you are lucky the bug reporting tool may create crash dumps (files with a *.dmp) when the client is crashing - those are not encrypted and may be analysed with a debugger (like windbg)

You know fully well that I meant if there was a way for *me* to read them, so let's not play smarty pants, shall we?

Stop acting yourself like a prick and a smarty pants yourself if you can't even figure ♥♥♥♥ with your own system or even use google for this lmao

"Full time developer" yeah right, bet you code in javascript lmao

I'm not acting like a prick.

I can figure it out myself, thank you very much, however it would be easier and less time consuming if I could read the logs.

I can use google, but to know what to google, I would first need to know what I'm looking for, hence why the logs would make this task easier.

I am a full time developer, I work with COBOL and JCL, but Developing and Programming are two different things.

Maybe you could use Google to educate yourself on that?

By the way, having any kind of knowledge in computing doesn't guarantee you'll be able to troubleshoot issues like a genius, sorry to burst your bubble "Danny"

You won't figure this by yourself because you can't brainlet, a simple google search would lead you gaijin's own support forum letting you know you CAN'T read clog files, simple as that. It would also let you know what a clog file is.
But instead of googling it an figure ♥♥♥♥ for yourself like a big boy, you come here and act like a prick flexing on your "super advanced ascended knowledge", yet can't figure something as simple as this.

Nice one brainlet, keep it up! The developing community always needs more people like you...

How about this, big boy.

Since you already "Found" (I doubt) that forum post how about you link it through a "let me google that for you" search (since you're so full of yourself) right here, so we can all see it?

Because I did google on how to read the logs and found nothing, perhaps you're better at googling than I am? Seeing as how you must resort to googling for what you call "Simple tasks" , I'm not sure if at the end of the day I am the brainlet, or you are.

Either way, this is not a place to fight so I'm not going to continue.

Good luck with your childish behaviour, I'm going to keep on working.

Currently I'm looking at no less than 10 reports for this thread, and I'm getting the feeling that if i don't put a stop to the thread now, I will end up dealing with many more. I'm going to lock this and move it to the right section where Knight will answer it when he has time.

FYI, relliK is(was) a tech mod for Gaijin. He knows about these things, even if he no longer runs around with an orange title. Being snide with him will get you nowhere.

Those of you who have thus far chosen to ignore forum rules, go read them.

Can you put a report in here > http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/forum/586-client-and-launcher-crashes/ and please ensure it contains the information requested here > https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/331726-client-and-launcher-crashes-important-read-before-posting/ this will speed the resolution process.

Thanks
