Further, the Shermans old APCBC was able to penetrate itself frontally and that only had 90mm pen, 5mm less than the KV and without its large overmatching because of the caliber.
So yes you categorically CAN pen it frontally.

So without taking into account that you can pen the turret or the flat portions of the hull more easily or that some of the Shermans have thinner armour, you very much so can pen a Sherman with it. Of course the smart thing to do would be to just load HE and oneshot it anyway.
With 90mm pen,it can't even deal with hull armor of pz4g let along any king of angling.
