whats the proper way to target lead with the flakpanzer gepard in AB?
I can't for the life of me get kills with the post war gepard, I have to expend ALL of the damned ammo to just get a few hits on the aircraft and can't reliably kill the damned buggers.

well I think I figured out the problem, SPARKING. I just went a round with good connection and NO sparking so every plane I shot went up in flames. If thats how its gonna work then this thing is gonna be a HUGE problem to level up

Shoot ground targets to level up. There are more of them. :albedobeer:

For RB, what I do is these:
  1. if I see a plane comming doing a pass (whenever gun or bombs), I keep an eye on him and then start shooting when he tries to head-on.
  2. Otherwise, I just use rangefinding: shoot where I think will land and then correct it.

To translate this to AB:
  1. you would need to trick ennemies airplane to think you a good target to bomb since you are focused on ground rather than air, and when he is going to pass-by-you (usually will fly low for better accoracy (this is the case in RB, not 100% sure in AB)), you just shoot on head-on and kills it and then move to avoid in case of payload.
  2. Shoot at the aiming circle and rectify each time and do NOT shoot whole ammo, just a small burst and stay on a secured captured zone if possible. Also, the near they are the better

These are just ideas thou, and can't say they are 99% effective for AB, just how I would adapt my AA RB strategies having the AB mechanics in mind.

no. The shells do nothing against ground targets and only affect very weak tanks. That last ammo belt has armor piercing shells.

the best thing to do is to hold your fire UNTIL you hear the enemy planes engines ONLY then open fire you will find you will get kills a lot easier, this holds true with all AA guns DO NOT FIRE until you hear the engines of the plane.
ARCADE, NOT realistic

Well if you cant get kills in arcade where it TELLS YOU TO AIM then you have no hope in realistic.

But like i said wait until you hear engines it shortens the distance between your shells and enemies aircraft thus less chance of missing or him dodging. This holds TRUE for ARCADE, REALISTIC or SIMULATION.

The closer he is, for when you start firing the greater the accuracy of your shots and virtually no chance for him to dodge your shells thus greatly increasing your guarantee of killing him everytime.
irrelevent as I never play realistic. People seem to keep forgetting the reply to my own post at the top.

Don't expect to hit much then. With arcade flight models, they just fly like mad men and can easily avoid something slow like the Flakpanzer Gepards relativly low RoF (same for the Falcon). You essentially need luck, or to have the M163 or Shilka (Shilka is the best bet due to the shotgun pattern).

It's only good when the shots don't spark.

Like you said it's all about sparkling. Chances are you're doing everything you need to do in the correct way it needs to be done.

you got that right, went a round with no sparking and every aircraft went up in flames.
