Because a giant snail zapping tanks with its eyes is a funny idea to me.
-Pirate ships same year and naval CBT started
-Modern tanks event and 1 year later modern tanks appeared (we literally have one of the April Fool's vehicles in the game now, Leo 2A5)
-Helis in that same event and now have their own tech trees
-Smoke mechanics and grenades tested again in that same event and appeared in game that same year
While correlation does not prove causation it's enough for people to connect the dots.
I mean, submarines, modern tanks, they don’t feel like out there jokes. They feel like tests.
What feels more like a joke?
>Cold War Submarines
>Modern Tanks and Helicopters
>F***ing MyLittlePonys with machinegun jetpacks
-Modern tanks were added only after people kept spamming Gaijin that they want the modern tanks they had in april fools. Gaijin wasn't even considering adding modern tanks before that april fools.
-Same scenario with helis as modern tanks, people wanted them so they added them.
-Smokes were indeed tested in the april fools, but they only added them because they were already working on them a pretty while before the april fools.
Now some stuff that will prove that april fools is just fools
-Gaijilla, if I remember correctly there 200m tall snake with lightning eyes in the game right? Huh much testing there
-Ponies with jetpacks and miniguns, do they exist in the game?
-Freaking AT walkers with KV2 derp guns, does anything even remotely resemble that in game?
-Submarines, theyre not in game and wont be in the future, the gameplay just doesnt work and theres no way to put it in the game. Some people say they will add them but they wont, they just couldnt fit naval and the gameplay is just too boring.
So yeah, April Fools is NOT a testing site.
This wasn’t very common, but I did even then go ‘uh, is it a coincidence that 18th century ships is the April fools, since the big thing (then) is potential naval CBT?’
After modern tanks, which was obviously a test for composite armour (T-64A devblog — 4 months later), helicopters, and more. This was when they were adding tanks like the T-62 and Leopard A1A1, etc, so it was obvious they were going Cold War. And of course, they tested helicopter controls, smoke, etc.
Do you know that? This wasn’t long after naval OBT I believe, it was very coincidental that submarines would be the April fools. The fact they are currently going Cold War with naval ships (example: Kirov cruiser) right now, not even a year afterwards — if I told you in 2017 that we would have Leopard 2A5s and Mi-35Ms, would you have actually believe me? I think submarines isn’t a ‘if’ as much as a ‘when’.
Hey, now I really liked that event!
On second thoughts maybe I'm just weird, I dunno.
The most likely event would involve modern jets. The updates around the months of the "Rank IX" added stabilizers and smoke systems, both of which are integral for MBT combat. Two years later, we have a techtree Leo 2A5. We recently got properly-functioning radar (both SPAA and plane systems) and a SAM vehicle, both of which will be necessary against Mach 2+ jets, so we can probably expect the F-15 and its Soviet counterpart in a "test" of horizon-modelling this year and the actual vehicles similar ~2 year timeframe (I would think 3 years, since the power gap between current top jets and possible top jets is much more than the previous top tanks and new top tanks, but with Gaijin anything is possible).
We could also see capital ships, possibly with tracks and on land maps in the event. We're still a long time away from the map sizes needed, but it would be logical.
ARG should stand for alternate reality game, also a .txt file was found by dataminers, that mentions ARG aswell as numbers, who spell out coordinates to a field in Serbia, near the crash-site of the F-117 that was shot down in 1999.
It was perfect.
Actually one I think that would be awesome would be an alternate history post-WW2, with modern German equipment (Panthers and Tigers/Toger 2s with APDS and composite armour, Panzer IIINs with ATGMs, modernized Bf 109s and Me 262s with electronic displays and stuff, etc.) vs M60s/T-64s and all that as well as modernized T-34s and Shermans, etc.
And maybe the objective is the allied team has to destroy a Landkreuzer or something...
You know that a test doesn't necessarily mean the actual models yes? There was much, much more in that event:
-bouyancy mechanics
-hull damage mechanics
-crew performance and setup for weapons
-wave physics and interaction with 3D models
Just saying "but pirate boats are different than PT boats" is obvious, but that doesn't make it any less probable.
Exactly, an event that spurs interest in the playerbase can be seen as a test, that was my exact point.
See above
But you just said April Fools wasn't for testing?
What's more probable, testing possible new mechanics and vehicle classes to eventually see them in-game, of a giant 200m tall snail?
I'm not saying that those events were tests, in fact I'm not saying any were, see my very first sentence.

Say it with me class: See above
Don't be so literal, there is a clear line between walkers, balloon tanks, and ponies versus modeled modern vehicles and naval craft.
We'll see.
DDs in-game and sub-chasers as well, mines tested and depth charges already in-game. We just got radar so sonar mechanics are not an unreasonable stretch. Sub crews are comparable, if not smaller than, DD crews, as are the model sizes.
Except the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, hence why people think it is.
Everyone must stop the line of Locusts from getting in Farmer Maus' crops.
I'd do it.
Or maybe we'll get some new thing that ends up being added after all?
Dunno what as of now., though.
