Using 102mm and 80mm values,
At 30°, the side is well protected at 160.0mm of effective thicknes. However, the front has only 117.779mm of effective thickness, easy to penetrate by anything it meets almost.
At 45° however, the frontal armour increases to 144.25mm if effective thickness. But the side is left rather unprotected at 113.137mm.
Of the two, I would say 30° is safer, however, neither is optimum.
However, at 38° of angling, the 102mm plate is increased to 128.44mm if effective thickness, while the side 80mm plate is increased to 129.42mm of effective thickness. Meaning the optimum distribution of armour is just over 38° of angling.
(Using the formula Effective Thickness = Actual Thickness / cos(Angle [in degrees]).)
you are pretty much dead if you can get cover before puttin out the fire-and bad timing the fire may stay lit
30 degrees must be safer.
It all depends on your particular tank's armour. A Panther should point closer to directly at its opponent, at a sleight angle, because its side armour is quite soft and its front armour is excellent. A Tiger can angle a bit more.
I was also thinking about the Type 90, which looks like a 2A4 and does have an autoloader.

Here's an excellent short video on the subject you might want to take a look at - after I watched it my survival rate increased enormously:

It's part of a great set of instructional videos called the blueprints series and it's author MikegoesBoom gives tips on every aspect of the game - they are all well worth a look.
Good luck :)
