I mean, you could ask them I guess, but >personally< I feel like the maps are already small enough as is with how fast some of these jets run... and adding mach 3 planes really doesn't make much sense... you could only achieve that speed at incredible altitude, and the jump from planes that do mach 1 and change to mach 3.5 is quite the leap...
I'm not sure what a YF-12 would be hunting down at 80,000 feet at mach 3.5 with only three missiles...? I mean, for perspective, top speed on this thing is a kilometer a second. The maps would have to be HUGE.
Well, the flat-earthers would riot, and hypothetically, it would basically be a tier 8+ game with only MiG-25 and YF-12. As far as I'm concerned it would probably be a stalemate until one had to land for fuel.
That sounds fun...............
(for arguement purposes, Rank 6-7 are transsonics, supersonics, doublesonics, probably up to the late Vietnam War or something, and rank 8+ would be where 30, 40, 50, 70+ km ranged air-to-air missiles and all of that intensifies. I don’t know where what starts where in reality obviously as we’re not there, but using rank is easier to say. For simplicity purposes)
I don’t know what the combat in game for rank 8-9 (assumably) superjets with over-the-horizon missiles, 2,000-3,000km/h top speeds, and positive thrust-to-weight ratio would be like (as they’re not in game). Although I can say with 99% certainty, it obviously is going to be different. Combat as a whole is pretty different per rank, Rank I biplanes fly differently than rank III-IV props and super props with 600-760+ km/h top speed, just as those same aircraft perform radically differently just slightly higher at Rank V. And you can argue that 9.0s-10.0s with 1100+ top speeds and extremely good thrust to weight ratio jets have different combat styles than 7.0s and such. I think like the difference between rank 4-5, I personally, of course unsure, but I think the transition from rank 7-8 will be like another transition from rank 4-5, where the combat changes completely because of the insane capabilities of aircraft like the F-14, F-15, MiG-25, etc.
But assumably both mentioned won’t be added by themselves and stuff, I would imagine they would go down the line with better MiG-19s, MiG-21s, 23s, etc. before they get there. But I think the combat would be more equipment and missile based, hopefully on appropriately sized maps, but like the transition from rank 4-5, I think the transition from rank 7-8 would be entirely subjective:
guns pretty much become obselete as the MiG-25 doesn’t even have guns (even the F4 which might be ~rank 7(?) doesn’t have guns until the E too to be fair), and I think most combat firing range will be measured in kilometers rather than meters, it probablybwill be missile dominant, equipment dominant, etc. I think people won’t like that, and people will like that, just as I know people who like jet combat and dislike rank 4 plane combat, while people don’t like jet combat but think props are the most fun. So whether or not it is fun, I don’t know, but my speculation is it might be subjective.
This is of course, all subjective, I don’t know what it’ll be like at all in game.
