P-61C has radar now?

Been away from the game for a few months now, and just came back. My P-61C seems to have developed a new HUD element!

So, how does this work?

I generally just play Arcade air battles. Is this even useful?

Works like a radar. To activate it, the default key is Alt+R. The P-61 radar has 3 modes: 3km, 9km and 18km. You'll need to bind a key to that to change the range. It can be pretty useful in Air RB on a very cloudy or a night map.

The P-61 only has search radar, so you don't get the powerful tracking/targetting radar benefits of some higher-level planes. But you know that thing where sometimes a heavy bomber will manage to hide in the cloud layer all game and basically singlehandedly win the round? You've got a counter to that now.

Yeah but like OP I play mostly AB, and I find the radar on the P-61 largely useless, especially since I generally use the P-61 as a fighter-bomber, rushing pillboxes and only then trying to kill planes, at an altitude below 500m.

I tried to figure a way to disable the radar since I find that green blob on the screen more annoying than anything, but apparently it's not possible.

It's useless if you fly in a way that doesn't use it, yeah. WWII airborne radar is a tool for night fighters and maybe all-weather interceptors. (And naval recon/bomber planes, but the game doesn't have surface-search radar implemented.)
