W/L is almost completely meaningless because it weighs a lot on luck to have a good team, good matchmaking, and in air RB, good maps.
It could be the only stat that matters because you have some impact on how the battle turns out, but it's definitely not telltale.

really because when I check the stats of people when there is just a handle full left after a grindy match the people with high W/L stick around to the bitter end to try and win while the K/D players leave once they don't get a good game.
luck can only play so much of a part in it once you have a few thousand matches. what it really comes to is are you willing to fight to the end or leave after you get killed in your tank that averages a 5-1 k/d per match

Fighting to the end doesn't really have an impact on W/L, though constantly quitting immediately will definitely make your W/L abysmal.

theres no point to you.
W/L clearly is the best stat to check otherwise wtf do you check.
high W/L obviously means they win more often then not and I would have them over a K/D player
edit: although I say this W/L is not perfect but is better then any other standard you can check on the player card

No. Some refuses to fly certain planes, do certain things in game cause to keep their stats high.. Or if thats what they enjoy, then keep flying like that... All good too, but thats missing out on a lot of fun stuff on war thunder.

I heard lot of excuses from these good players. (cause often they are good as well)
Cant play that battle rating, cause thats often uptiered. Or not as an effective match winner as another. Cant fly that nation, cause its not as competetive as another.
Cant play that plane, cause thats not the best, certain playstyles, or risk losing their plane to win the match or save a teammate etc.
Cant fly bomber cover, cause that doesnt give enough points
blablabla. Goes on... just quit when the favorite plane is lost - even if someone in the squad got a wager going on. Stuff like that.

You read whole of the players stats to get an idea of who or what they are. No single stat is good measure or better than the other.

I can agree on this sure. I guess I got a bias towards it because when I check after a loss and most of the team has 40% w/l or lower it hurts. which would be a point for your stance on luck playing a bigger role. but are those people with 40% bad or just very unlucky and get bad teams I'd say bad

They might just like flying certain lineups that does not have a lot of bombs or are less competetive for mission objectives. Or just another preference of play style.

I can do wagers alone now, I tried and got 20 wins with no losses + then with a squad in between with objective oriented lineups. Got 50+ wins in a row in total (including my random solo matches). I still have like 47-50% Winrate i think this month. But if I fly with a squad, or line ups that are good match winners, i can get that up to 60-75% if i try. I like to fly at random, having more fun that way.

Some matches i go for mission objectives, some not at all.
