researching tier 3 tanks using tier 1 tanks

Is it quicker to get rp if your using a tier 2 tank to research a tier 3 tank, or could a tier 1 tank do aswell ?

Nope. You're earning LESS RP and takes a Cap Limit.
You can't even use a Higher Tier Tank to Research a Low Tier since it takes a Cap penalty.

Tier 1 can do it, but tier 2 is faster. Check on stat cards and you will see what tiers are effectively researched by a vehicle.

General rule of thumb is:
Non-premiums will effective research one below, their tier, and one above.
Premiums will effective research all below, their tier, and one above.

There is a research penalty for researching a vehicle out of the effective research range of the one you are using, the penalty increases based on gap in tiers.

Correct.

You can research a tier 3 with a tier 1, it will just take longer than using a tier 2.

I believe it's somewhere around a 20% RP penalty per tier over the effective one. Don't quote me on that I can't find the exact post on it atm.

It's really not. If you do well in a tier 1 and keep a solid steady income, you'll research faster than using a vehicle that you aren't familiar with. Even if the one you aren't that good in is a tier higher.

I mean, as mentioned, you’ll only get about a few hundred RP a battle, instead of a few thousand. But you technically can.

I actually did finish researching my T-80B with a BT-5/7, not the entire tank, but to show you still get some rewards RP wise.

Just play where u enjoy it the most... if its tier 1, then play there. U will research slow but so what, if have more fun there its good. Plus u get a higher SL to RP ratio so that u always can buy expert crews for your new tanks when or if u get a new one.

This is not true for premium vehicles btw., so you CAN research lower rank vehicles with a higher rank premium vehicle without a penalty.

Normally when using prem tanks to research through an entire tree or a large part of it; it is effective at researching 1 rank above and 2 below (but effectively 1 rank below still). If you're not using prem tanks to effectively researching higher ranks thne the RP gain is gonna be minimal at best. For example im using my prem p47 M to research the F100 D SS but i'm only getting about 60% RP GAIN so if i get 11k RP a match i'm only really making 6-7k RP minimum but its still better then playing sabres sometimes. Just dont use any ranks too high up when researching down the tech tree it'll be usless you'll see a trend where you make thousands of RP then it'll drop down to hundreds which isnt really effecient.
