Why No USSR Flag Decals?
I made a discussion explaining why russian decals should be in the game, and I totally overlooked the "its illegal in certain countries" explanation. So I accepted defeat and went on. But I realized that the USSR flag is already in many decals and that the flag is legit hung up in the hangar menu.
So if its illegal in certain countries, then why is USSR flag in the game. Or am I missing a part of what makes it illegal or not.

It's not illegal, that's about it.

In a number of countries, it's a rough topic with a few having Communist symbols banned. Bulgaria for example has a law where public display of Communist symbols are illegal.

Romania is a bit of an odd one as there law is "initiating, organizing, committing or supporting in any way totalitarian or extremist actions of a communist, fascist, legionary or of any other racist, antisemitic, revisionist, separatist nature that can endanger in any way the unity and territorial integrity of Romania, and inciting actions that can endanger the rule of law" but has no specific mention of symbols.

Poland also imposed such a law, but there were challanges due to it being found unconstitutional via violating freedom of expression, but I can't remember if they removed the law or if they kept it anyway.

Indonesia has also had a ban inplace on anything related to Communism/Marxism-Leninism since the 60's. They are tough on the law too and can earn you I think 20 years in prison. Hell, a Malaysian man was detained for wearing a shirt with a sickle and hammer on it. Though being a tourist (and unaware of the law), they only took the shirt.

Ok but that still doesn't answer the question. When on the issue of a russian flag decal, Why do people use the "its illegal in some countries" arguement, when the same "illegal" symbols are already in the game.

Well, a number of Soviet era decals do exist that are somewhat close to the flag. The Victory Banner can be achieved durring the "Victory Hour" event on VE day and purchasing the T-III earns you a white sickle and hammer decal. Why no direct Soviet flag? Hard to say. I believe it's because the Soviets never really painted their flag on their tanks. They often just used the red star (and/or a guards badge in the case of guards armies/divisions).

Edit: The exact Soviet Naval Ensign can be clearly seen on Project 1124 as well.

But then they have flags from random countries who've never had tanks nor put their own flag on those tanks. If War Thunder is trying to focus on historical accuracy then why do they have flag decals from random countries but not the USSR?

There is a current flag for each country, not related to anything historical, just current flags (to show your country, place them on said nations vehicles, etc). Some nations (such as the US) did place flags on their vehicles which allows them to be an unlockable option. Maybe we will see Naval Ensigns and Jacks for each nation when it enters OBT (or add specific naval decals).

Maybe in the flags tab, they only show flags of currently existing countries?
