p38 and p61 are so bad

like wtf is their purpose? their guns are not good, manuverability is garbage and speed is the downside. how should i use them?
well i dont use p38 now cuz i unlockied p51 but p61 is still in my crew and im still using it without knowing waht to do. any tips?

with the p61 just force head on's spray some 20mm and pull out, most of the time they will die, worst case they will try to get on your back but you will have time to aim with your quad 50 cal. turret and finish the job

For the p38... i don't like it myself.

The only decent p38 is the P38 LO, it has a roll rate similar to the FW190's. I have the two premium p38's and the rest unlocked and they aren't even that good at b&z. To much stiffening when diving (compression), keep them slow and avoid any turn fights. I honestly skipped them all together. They do have decent firepower though, but that's about it.

The P61's weapons are excellent. The P-38's are okay.

They're both heavy fighters, of course, so you shouldn't expect them to out-fly single-engine types.

well in american planes (not naval planes) i think that p38 and p61 are worst and dont deserve battle rating of 3-4. im using all p47 which i could ulock because they are so awesome. 8 machine guns and reload time of 20 seconds is a gift from god. im currently unlocking the last rank IV p51 and imo any p51/p47 is better than these heavy fighters

Anti-bomber/interceptor and long range escorting aircraft that don't fit the RB meta. They work well in GRB though as there are no markers thus would likely work in simulator.

most planes on the game work better without markers, it makes flying on the deck viable without makers painting you for free RP. I like the EC RB without markers, makes allied planes that cant climb have a chance of fighting, even bombers have a chance of bombing and making back to base.

p38s are absolutely amazing in sim, their counter rotating props make them perfectly stable and cockpit visibility is spectacular, combined with nose mounted guns which allow for precise long range shooting they are easily my favourite aircraft to fly

You're correct Eftwyrd, I just flew the P38K last night after typing this and was a little impressed. It doesn't roll as well as the Lo but turns better and has a better climb rate of a spacefire. The compression is still there but if you know how to fly with its strengths you can have some pretty nice victories.
